  • MCHS site-based council to meet Monday

    The Marion County High School Site-Based Decision Making Council is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, at the high school.

    According to the meeting agenda, the council will discuss questions for the candidates to become the next high school principal, then go into executive session to discuss the candidates.

    After the executive session, the council will return to open session to set a timeline for the principal selection process.

  • Three Republicans seek party's gubernatorial nomination

    Gov. Steve Beshear is running unopposed in the Democratic primary, but three Republicans are hoping to challenge him in November.

    On May 17, Republican voters will have a choice between Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw, businessman Phil Moffett and Senate President David Williams. All three have campaigned on the need for change in the governor's office, and each is convinced that he or she is the best candidate for the job.

  • Primary election is May 17

    The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 for the 2010 Primary Election.

    Only voters who were registered with a specific party before Jan. 1 or first-time voters who registered with a party after Jan. 1 are eligible to participate in the primary.

    Voters who do not know if they are eligible to vote can call the Marion County Clerk's Office at 692-2651. To find out where to vote, citizens can call the county clerk's office or visit www.elect.ky.gov and follow the "Where Do I Vote" link.

  • Fiscal Court names reapportionment committee

    During its May 5 meeting, the Marion County Fiscal Court appointed the members of the reapportionment committee. Carroll Kirkland, J.B. Thomas and Donnie Thompson will be looking at what adjustments may be needed to the magisterial district boundaries.

    Every 10 years, a reapportionment committee determines if any changes are needed to the magisterial district based on the most recent Census.

  • City council meets at 7 p.m.

    The Lebanon City Council is schedule to meet at 7 p.m. tonight, May 9, in regular session a city hall.

    Marion County Economic Development Director Tom Lund is scheduled to speak with the council about economic development incentives.

    Other items on the agenda include minutes of the previous meeting, payment of bills and department reports.

  • Fiscal Court meets at 4 p.m. May 5

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday,  May 5.

    The agenda includes the following items:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - A resolution accepting road resurfacing money

    - Advertising for fuel, lubricants and road materials for fiscal year 2011-12

    - Set a public hearing regarding county road aid and LGEA funds

  • E911 work has begun, still years away

    Marion County is one step closer to acquiring enhanced 911, although it may still be years before the service is available to county citizens.

    Representatives from MapSync and the Lincoln Trail Area Development District met with local officials April 19 at the David R. Hourigan Center. Ron Householder of MapSync led the meeting.

    "The data gathering process begins as soon as we complete this session," he said.
