  • ATC reports to county

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has contributed more than $180,000 to the Marion County Area Technology Center in recent years, and during the court's April 21 meeting, the court heard where some of that funding has been used.

    The court initially contributed $150,000 toward the renovations of the tech center. The court has agreed since then to allow that money to be used in other ways to enhance the tech center. Principal Laura Arnold reported that $63,600 was used to help fund an engineering position at the tech center.

  • Two Republicans vie for ag commissioner nomination

    James Comer of Tompkinsville and Rob Rothenburger of Shelbyville are seeking to become Kentucky's next Commissioner of Agriculture.

    Before either has a chance to make that happen, one will have to win the Republican nomination in the May 17 primary, however.

    The current ag commissioner, Richie Farmer, is running for lieutenant governor on David Williams' ticket. Comer and Rothenburger hope to keep Farmer's seat in Republican hands.

  • State of Emergency declared

    Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly on Tuesday declared a state of emergency due to the effects of flooding April 25-26 in Marion County.
    Judge Mattingly said state officials asked county officials to go ahead an issue states of emergency. The county has had some isolated damage, but nothing like the damage during the ice storm in 2009 or the flooding last year.

  • Fiscal court meets at 4 p.m., April 21

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. today, April 21, at the David R. Hourigan Government Center.

    Items on the agenda include:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting.

    - Workers compensation insurance renewal with KACo.

    - A status report from Delena Trent of The Caring Place

    - A report on co-op funding from the Marion County Area Technology Center

    - Payment to the Marion County Clerk for preparation of tax bills

    - Agreement with the City of Lebanon to share E-911 contracts

  • Government offices closing for Easter holiday

    With Easter this Sunday, April 24, several government offices will be closed for the holiday.

    The Marion Circuit Clerk's Office, the Marion County Clerk's Office, Marion County Judge/Executive's Office and the Marion County Sheriff's Office will close at noon on Friday, April 22, and reopen at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 25. Calls for service from the sheriff's office should go through the Lebanon Police Dispatch at 692-2121.

  • Treasured seat

    Kentucky Democrats have two choices in the primary election for state treasurer.

    Incumbent Todd Hollenbach is seeking re-election, but he is facing a challenge from someone familiar to Marion County residents, Steve Hamrick.

    The Enterprise contacted both candidates, but as of press time, only Hamrick (a former Marion County economic development director) had responded to the candidate questionnaire. Hamrick's complete questionnaire will also appear online at www.lebanonenterprise.com.

  • County approves funding for youth sports programs

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has approved funding for the Marion County Middle School baseball team and for the local 4-H shooting sports program.

    The court approved these requests during its April 7 meeting.

    Jessica Bagwell, the coordinator for the 4-H Sure Shots, and members of the team made their request to the magistrates. The court agreed to provide $2,500 from the general fund.
