    FRANKFORT – Kentucky is once again rated as one of the best states for transparency and public accountability by a new national report.
    Kentucky received an A- for its transparency website, www.opendoor.ky.gov, which allows citizens to review state government spending. Kentucky is considered one of seven top states in transparency, according to the newly released report: Following the Money 2013: How the States Rank on Providing Online Access to Government Spending Data.

  • County offices, services affected by Easter weekend

    Marion County residents should be aware of schedule changes affecting county services during the Easter weekend.

    The county road department will be on a shortened work schedule on Friday, March 29, which is Good Friday. As soon as the garbage routes are completed Friday, that department will close for the day.

    As a result, county residents on the Friday route are encouraged to put their trash out earlier than usual.

  • Fiscal court declared March 22 as Lady Knights Day

    In recognition of the Marion County Lady Knights winning the 2013 Sweet 16 and finishing the season 39-0, the Marion County Fiscal Court approved a resolution declaring March 22 as Lady Knights Day.

  • Fiscal court meeting at 4 p.m. today

    The Marin County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21, on the second floor of the David Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Approval of minutes of the previous meeting

    - Consider proclamation of  “Marion County Lady Knights Day”

    - Consider request of Marion County Conservation District funding increase/special district

    - Presentation on employee term insurance options by Liberty National Insurance representative

  • Special tourism meeting scheduled for today, March 21

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has scheduled a special called meeting for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in room 300 of the Centre Square Convention Center.

    The agenda for the meeting includes three items:

    - Annual review of the executive director

    - Way finding signs

    - New director search process

  • City will no longer work on private property

    Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw has issued a memo instructing city employees not to work on private property.
    Crenshaw issued the memo March 11, noting that city employees have assisted homeowners and business owners with minor matters.
    “While these acts may have been performed with good intentions, they must not continue,” Crenshaw wrote.
    Going forward, Crenshaw wrote that city will follow the letter of the law.

  • State ethics panel charges Richie Farmer with 42 violations

    Former state Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer has been charged with 42 counts of ethics violations by the Executive Branch Ethics Commission. The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the commission, Louisville TV station WDRB reported on its website.
    Farmer, a one-time UK basketball star and former candidate for lieutenant governor, had been criticized for his spending habits while serving two terms as agriculture commissioner.

  • April 15 is tax-filing deadline

    FRANKFORT – Income taxes must be filed by Monday, April 15. New this year is the Kentucky Department of Revenue's “Where’s My Refund,” an online resource that allows taxpayers to check the status of their 2012 individual income tax refund.
