  • Tourism director resigns

    Nicky Reynolds has resigned as the executive director of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission. 

    Reynolds submitted her resignation March 18. Her last day in Lebanon will be April 12. She will be moving to Rutherford County, Tenn., where she will become the vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

    Reynolds was hired in January of 2012, and she started working in Lebanon in Feb. 13, 2012. She came to Lebanon from the Oak Ridge (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau.

  • County applying for grant for handicap association

    The Marion County Association for the Handicapped would like to improve its current Marion County Industries workshop, and the Marion County Fiscal Court is giving the association its support.
    During its March 7 meeting, the fiscal court approved a resolution to seek a Community Development Block Grant to help relocate and expand the workshop.
    The county is seeking a grant large enough to cover the full costs of building a new facility, according to Magistrate John Arthur Elder III.

  • Special district bill hits snag

    Last year, State Auditor Adam Edelen launched a project to bring greater visibility to the more than 1,200 special districts serving communities throughout Kentucky.
    Edelen dubbed that effort his Citizen Auditor Initiative. After gathering budget and other information about those districts, his office launched a website (http://apps.auditor.ky.gov/public/theregistry/cai.html) where citizens could find more information about the districts in their areas. Statewide, those districts manage approximately $2.7 billion of taxpayer funds.

  • Lebanon City County, tourist commission both meet today

    The Lebanon City Council and the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission are both scheduled to meet in regular session today, March 11.

    The city council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at city hall.

    The city council's agenda includes the following:

    - A report from Marion County Economic Development Director Tom Lund

    - An audit report from Rick Downs, CPA, PSC

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - Payment of bills

    - Department reports

    - Old and new business

  • Fiscal court meeting today

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. today, March 7, on the second floor of the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for today's meeting includes:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - A presentation from District 4, Dept. of  Hwy., annual report on rural/secondary road work

    - Presentation - annual report of the Marion County Industrial Foundation

    - Waste tire amnesty collection agreement, slated for late May

  • Marion County will not accept Taylor County animals

    In light of the recent announcement that the Taylor County Animal Shelter will no longer adopt out animals, the Marion County Fiscal Court wants it publicly known that the Marion County Animal Shelter will not accept animals from Taylor County.
    The magistrates said the Marion County shelter should verify with a driver’s license that only Marion County residents are dropping off animals at the Marion County shelter.

  • E911 could be in place before the end of the year

    Marion County could have Enhanced 911 before the end of the year.
    Marion County is looking to tie into the Central Kentucky 911 Network, which is based in Lexington, as a way to save costs on the implementation and upkeep of E911 service. David Lucas, the Lexington 911 director, said he hopes to have Marion County online in the third quarter of this year.
    Lucas made his comments Feb. 19 during the first meeting of the Lebanon/Marion County E911 Advisory Committee. The committee includes local officials, the heads of various county emergency services, and citizens.

  • Pension deal could include lottery tax

    House Democratic leaders will likely propose adding a 6 percent sales tax on Kentucky Lottery ticket sales and expanding available lottery games to fund future pension contributions.
    Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, said the lottery sales tax would generate $49 million annually, and new lottery games could bring in between $60 million and $90 million over time.

  • White House outlines Kentucky's financial losses if sequester takes effect

    The White House said Sunday that Kentucky could lose millions of dollars this year alone if Congress doesn't act by Friday.
    That's when a series of automatic cuts — called sequestration — will take effect.
    For example, Kentucky would lose $11.8 million for primary and secondary education, "putting around 160 teacher and aide jobs at risk," the White House said in a release.
