  • Fiscal Court approves 2011-12 budget

    The Marion County Fiscal Court approved the second reading of the 2011-12 budget during its June 16 meeting.

    The budget was approved 3-0, since Magistrates Steve Masterson and John Arthur Elder III were not present at the meeting.

  • Special city council meeting tonight

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to hold a special-called meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, June 20.

    The agenda includes two items: a request from Jim Tabor and discussion regarding the Marion County Area Technology Center house.

  • Final farewell

    Family, friends, law enforcement officers, local and national officials and members of the public were among the hundreds of people who gathered Saturday afternoon at Marion County High School to pay their respects to Lebanon Police Chief Joe Bell.

    During the service, Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw, who had appointed Bell as the police chief just 14 months earlier, commended Bell for his leadership, his perseverance and his ability to smile in any situation.

  • Brady appointed police chief

    Lebanon Mayor Gary Crenshaw signed a memo June 13 appointing Wally Brady as the city's new police chief.

    Brady served as the assistant chief under Chief Joe Bell, who died June 6, following surgery at Taylor Regional Hospital.

    Brady joined the Lebanon Police Department in 1982. He has worked as a supply officer, a sergeant and a school resource officer.

  • Re-educated

    Bradfordsville held a celebration 27 years in the making Saturday night. For the first time since 1984, the Bradfordsville School is once again a center of activity.

    "Welcome, everyone," Bradfordsville Mayor David Edelen said. "Welcome to the dedication of the Bradfordsville School Community Building."

  • County cuts funding for lobbyist from 2011-12 budget

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has approved the first reading of a $13 million budget, but it will no longer spend money for a lobbyist in Frankfort.

    The magistrates gave their initial approval to the proposed 2011-12 budget during a special-called meeting June 4. 

    The court anticipates spending more than $5.3 million from the general fund, more than $2.5 million in the road fund and nearly $3.9 million on the Marion County Detention Center, according to the budget proposal.

  • Funeral for police chief will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at MCHS

    UPDATE: The funeral for Lebanon Police Chief Joe Bell will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Marion County High School.

    Bell died Monday, June 6, at Taylor County Hospital, where he was undergoing prostate surgery. He was 58.

    Bosley Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation at the funeral home will be at 4 p.m. Friday, June 10. Public visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the high school. The service is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

     

  • City council budget session tonight

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 6.

    The purpose of the meeting is to hold a work session on the 2011-12 budget.
