A meeting has been scheduled for Jan. 16 to discuss the future of the Gravel Switch Fire Department.

Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly has announced the meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Gravel Switch Community Center. According to Mattingly, members of the Kentucky State Fire Commission have asked to address some concerns.

Any individual interested in the Gravel Switch Fire Department, firefighters, past firefighters, possible future firefighters, and mutual aid departments are invited to attend the meeting.

Newly appointed Lebanon City Councilman John R. Mattingly took the oath of office Tuesday afternoon at city hall.

Mattingly, 60, previously served on the city council from 1988 to 1994.

On Monday, a majority of the council members voted to appointed Mattingly to replace Denise Fogle, who resigned from her seat on the city council in December. Fogle had to resign in order to be eligible to receive her state pension, according to officials with the Kentucky Retirement Systems.

The Marion County Board of Education is scheduled to meet in a special session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the board of education office at 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.
