    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the David Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for today's meeting is as follows:

    - Annual allocation for Loretto youth softball league

    - Marion County Relay for Life presentation seeking court sponsorship

    - Review Code Red storm warning service

    - Review county employee job descriptions for CDL/road/sanitation/other

  • Fiscal court news briefs

    The Marion County Fiscal Court on Feb. 7 approved $1,200 from community project funds to help the new softball programs at Lebanon and St. Charles middle schools.
    The money came from Magistrate Larry Caldwell, John Arthur Elder III and Steve Masterson’s project funds. Magistrates Jackie Wicker and Roger “Cotton” Smothers have already committed their project funds for the year.
    - The court approved its annual $5,000 allocation for Marion County Little League.

  • Whitfield hosting town hall meeting Feb. 21

    Congressman Ed Whitfield will host his first town hall meeting in Marion County from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21.
    The meeting will be held at Centre Square, 239 N. Spalding Avenue in Lebanon.
    Whitfield represents Kentucky’s First Congressional District. Marion County was added to the First Congressional District during the most recent redistricting.

  • No garbage pick-up on Memorial Day

    Monday, May 27, is Memorial Day, and it is a holiday for Marion County government employees.

    As a result, no garbage pick up will take place Monday. Instead, the Monday route will be pick up Tuesday,May 28, along with the regular Tuesday route. County residents are encouraged to put their trash out earlier than usual because May 28 will be a double-up day for sanitation crews.

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet in regular session at 7 p.m. tonight at city hall.

  • Tourist commission meeting will be rescheduled

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission was scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11. That meeting has been cancelled.

    Lebanon Tourism Executive Director Nicky Reynolds said the commission will not have a quorum for today's meeting, so it will be rescheduled at a later date.

  • Tourist commission meeting Feb. 6

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has scheduled a special-called meeting for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Room 300 of the Centre Square Convention Center.

    Wayfaring signage is the only item on the agenda for the meeting. The commission had a brief discussion about the signs during its last regular meeting, but decided to hold a special-called meeting to discuss more details, such as the color, shape and size of the signs.

  • Higdon: Expect changes to pill mill bill

    A comprehensive measure the Kentucky General Assembly enacted last year to curb prescription drug abuse is in need of changes, says one of the lawmakers who helped shape it.

    In an interview with The Kentucky Standard last week, Sen. Jimmy Higdon, R-Lebanon, who helped lead efforts to revise House Bill 1 and get it passed in the Senate, said it has been effective, but has had unexpected results.

  • County closings for Martin Luther King Day

    Marion County Judge/Executive has announced to following closings for the Martin Luther King Holiday.

    Because  of the holiday, the state computer system will be shut  down. Likewise, the Marion County Clerk’s Office, the Marion County PVA Office, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be closed from Saturday Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 21.

    The  sheriff’s office will respond to calls placed through the Lebanon Police Dispatch (692-2121).

    The Marion County Circuit Clerk’s Office will be closed Jan. 21.
