  • County judge recovering after Wednesday afternoon accident

    Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly is recovering after a three-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on Spalding Avenue.
    According to the Lebanon Police Department, the accident occurred at 18:57 p.m. Nov. 28.
    Mattingly, 59, of 65 Country Side Estates in Lebanon was facing southbound on Spalding Avenue and preparing to turn left onto J.T. Whitlock Avenue. He was driving a 2002 Ford Escape.

    Marion Countians may see their trash collection fees increase in the near future. Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly said during the Nov. 15 fiscal court meeting that the county tries to break even on its trash collections costs.

  • Court sets $2 million bond requirement for constable

    Dudley Friend Adle Jr. was in line to become Marion County's first constable in nearly two decades, but the Marion County Fiscal Court has put a significant roadblock in the way.

    At its Nov. 15 meeting, the court voted 4-0 to require the constable to provide a $2 million surety bond before taking office. (Magistrate John Arthur Elder III was not present for the meeting.)

    "What they're saying is they don't want me to do it," said Adle, 75, the day after the meeting.

  • Former Raywick fire chief indicted

    Former Raywick Fire Chief Charles "Chuck" Helm has been indicted on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 and abuse of public trust.

    The indictment against Helm, 52, of 1000 Hazy Downs Road in Raywick was handed down by a Marion County grand jury on Monday, Nov. 19.

  • 'Swiss cheese' annexation case

    The fate of an annexation approved more than six years ago by the Lebanon City Council now rests in the hands of the Kentucky Supreme Court.

    On Nov. 14, Attorney Keith Brown presented the city's case, while Attorney Jim Avritt Sr. spoke on behalf of the property owners who opposed the annexation.

  • Governor orders flags to half-staff to honor Marion County deputy

    The following statements was issued by the Governor's Office:

    Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that state flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in honor of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Rakes, who died earlier this week after being shot during a routine traffic stop in Marion County.

  • Judicial center, Sheriff's office will be closed Friday, Nov. 16

    The Marion County Judicial Center will be closed on Friday, Nov. 16, in observance of the untimely death of Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Anthony Rakes.

    The Marion County Sheriff's Office will be closed, although they will be answering calls.

    The judicial center houses the Marion Circuit Clerk's Office. The judicial center and the circuit clerk's office will reopen on Monday, Nov. 19.

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the David Hourigan Government Building.
    The agenda for today's meeting is as follows:

    - Review county employee health insurance quotes for 2013
    - Consider sanitation rate adjustments/increase starting January 2013
    - Consider transportation request for addition to abandoned segment of US 68
    - Consider request from Lebanon Enterprise for annual “Discover” publication

  • Art reception at the courthouse

    The Marion County Judicial Center hosted a reception Oct. 25 to celebrate the art on display throughout the building. A number of local artists painted pieces specifically for the judicial center.

  • Loretto, Raywick post offices hours will be cut

    Two post office meetings were held last week in Marion County and customers in both places expressed their displeasure with the decision to cut the hours at the Loretto and Raywick branches.
    Sixty-four people attended the 5 p.m. meeting Oct. 30 in Raywick, and around 20 people attended the 1 p.m. meeting in Loretto. Rosemary Miller, a US Postal Service manager of operations, thanked the attendees at both meetings for coming up to show their support for the postal service.
