  • Obama, Romney vie for Presidency

    On Nov. 6, American voters will have the opportunity to decide who they would like to lead the nation for the next four years.

    The two major candidates are incumbent President Barack Obama, a Democrat, and challenger Mitt Romney, a Republican and the former governor of Massachusetts.

    In the past month, the candidates have debated each other three times, and their running mates, Vice President Joe Biden and Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, even squared off down the road at Centre College in Danville.

  • Today is the final day to request mail-in absentee ballot

    Tuesday, Oct. 30, is the last day to request a mail-in absentee ballot for the Nov. 6 election.

    There is an exception for military personnel. Members of the Armed Forces who learn between Oct. 30 and Nov. 5 that they will be confined to a military base will be allowed to request an absentee ballot.

    Today is also the last day for someone who previously requested an absentee ballot to cancel that ballot if they know they will be able to vote in person. These voters will need to return the ballot they had requested by today to the Marion County Clerk's Office.

  • Congressional race a ‘first’ for Marion County

    When the state legislature approved the new Congressional districts last year, Marion County was moved into the First Congressional District, which predominantly consists of counties in the most western parts of Kentucky.

  • Magistrates approve community requests

    The Marion County Fiscal Court on Oct. 18 approved requests for assistance for Loretto Head Start and the Generation Gap's Toys for Kids program.

    The magistrates voted unanimously to give $12,000 toward improvements to the playground for Loretto Head Start.

    The judge and the magistrates agreed to contribute $1,500 combined to the Generation Gap's annual Christmas toy give-away. Junior Adams estimated that 175 to 200 children received toys last year through the program.

  • Mayor named elected official of the year

    Gary Crenshaw has served as the mayor of Lebanon since 1999, winning re-election more than once, and recently his efforts during the past 13 years were recognized by the Kentucky League of Cities.

    On Oct. 12, Crenshaw was named the Elected Official of the Year by the KLC during its annual conference in Lexington.

    "I was very humbled by that," Crenshaw said. "I certainly wasn't expecting it."

  • City of Lebanon to auction surplus property

    The Lebanon City Council unanimously voted to declare a list of items surplus during its Oct. 8 meeting. The City of Lebanon has scheduled a public auction for 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, to sell those items.

    The surplus items include a 1997 Crown Victoria, a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, a rover sewer camera, two Remington Model 700 308 rifles, eight bicycles, computer monitors, PC's printers, a VCR, cameras, VHS and cassette tapes, camera film, flashlights, a hard case with sockets and an ammo case.
