  • Schools are closed Wednesday, Feb. 4

    Marion County Public Schools will remain closed Wednesday, Feb. 4. There are still many bus routes unsafe for travel because of tree limbs, low hanging utility lines and snow/ice.

    This is the eighth consecutive day of school cancellations and 11 days overall.

    The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has received many inquires about whether districts must make up the recent missed school days.

  • Winter weather advisory in effect until 7 p.m.

      The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for central Kentucky, including Marion County, through 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3. An low pressure area is moving through Indiana and Ohio and will bring snow to the region through this afternoon.

  • IMPORTANT: Conserve water

    Local officials are urging all Marion County residents to conserve water.   During the recent power outages, electricity has been out at the Lebanon water treatment plant, Lebanon City Administrator John Thomas said after an emergency meeting of city and county officials and emergency personnel Wednesday evening.

  • National Weather Service: Falling ice can be hazardous

    The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for several counties in Kentucky, including Marion County. As temperatures rise and ice melts on trees, limbs and power lines, falling ice has the potential to create a hazardous situation. This may mean large pieces of ice will fall to the ground.

  • Lebanon man accused of two counts of rape

    Dillis Berryman III, 30, of 419 Linda Avenue in Lebanon was indicted in Marion Circuit Court recently for first-degree rape (two counts), first-degree sodomy (three counts), first-degree sexual abuse (four counts) and first-degree persistent felony offender.   According to the indictment, on two occasions between July 6 and Aug.

  • Indoor marijuana-growing operation found

    A traffic stop early Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, led police to a residence where an indoor marijuana growing operation and one and a half pounds of marijuana were found.   Bardstown Police Officer Patrick Stucker stopped Christopher T. Bartley, 36, of Bardstown, for careless or reckless driving. During the traffic stop, the officer also found marijuana.

  • All About Organs

    Members of the Health Occupations Students of America hosted an program for local fourth- and fifth-graders at Spring View Hospital Jan. 15.

    The event was intended to educate students about the different organs in the body, the functions of those organs and about organ donation. The HOSA members are all students at the Marion County Area Technology Center. Students Ann-Rachelle Newton, Kaylor Pettit and Kendal Violette organized the event.
