  • Kentucky Junior Miss tickets go on sale Nov. 22

    Christine Mattingly, the 2011 Marion County Junior Miss, will participate in the Kentucky Junior Miss Program on Jan. 14-15 at the Singletary Center in Lexington.

    At the Friday night program, Christine will perform talent. At the Saturday matinee, she will perform fitness and self-expression. The top 12 finalists will be selected at the beginning of Saturday night's program. These 12 finalists will perform talent, fitness and self-expression.  

  • Six fire departments respond to Larry Hunt Road fire

    Six fire departments, 50 emergency service personnel and 24,000 gallons of water were needed to contain a fire on Larry Hunt Road Nov. 12.

    Raywick Fire Chief Chuck Helm said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police and the State Fire Marshall.

    At 12:57 p.m. Friday, the Lebanon Police Department received a report of a fire on Larry Hunt Road. A trailer, garage and a truck were consumed by the fire, according to Helm.

    Garland and Melanie Jones live by the lay of the land, but they found each other, and fell in love, via the World Wide Web.

    Garland, who admits to not being much of a computer man, hasn't had much use for a computer or the Internet since.

    "I found my wife and I was done," Garland says with a chuckle while standing outside of their home on Manton Road in Washington County.

  • Family loses everything in trailer fire

    Kevin Davis, 35, and his four children lost everything in a trailer fire Sunday morning at 9464 Siloma Road.

    "Nobody was hurt. That's the main thing," said Hilda Wright, Davis' aunt.

    Anyone who has clothing they could donate to the family can contact Wright at (270) 692-1470.

  • UCCO seeks donations for Thanksgiving meal

    The United Concerned Citizens Organization will be holding its Thanksgiving Outreach 2010 Community Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, at Centre Square in Lebanon. Set-up and preparation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24.

    The deadline for turkey contributions and call-in orders is Thursday, Nov. 18. Contributions can be dropped off at The Java House between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monetary contributions should be in the form of a check or money order. Checks should be mailed to UCCO, Inc., PO Box 74, Lebanon, Ky. 40033.
