  • Fiscal court declared March 22 as Lady Knights Day

    In recognition of the Marion County Lady Knights winning the 2013 Sweet 16 and finishing the season 39-0, the Marion County Fiscal Court approved a resolution declaring March 22 as Lady Knights Day.

    That’s the slogan at Lebanon Middle School, but it’s not just words on paper.
    The administration, staff and students have put the slogan into action and it’s paying off.
    LMS was recently named one of the 2013 Kentucky Schools to Watch. There are currently only 13 schools statewide and 400 schools nationally that have achieved this honor. It puts LMS in an elite group of schools that have proven to be “academically excellent.”

    The first time Paul Childers picked up a guitar he knew he wanted to pursue a career in music.
    “I had a euphoric moment,” Childers said. “I knew I wanted to do this and nothing else.“
    At only 12 years of age, Childers began to pursue his passion. With the help of a local musician, Brad Lanham, Childers learned the basics.

  • The gang’s all SHEARED

    When Shawn Medley arrived at the St. Augustine School on Saturday, his hair cascaded down his back to his waist. By the time he left, his head was barren (including his beard).
    After his haircut his head felt about 10 pounds lighter.
    “There was a lot there,” Medley said.
    He said his hair hadn’t been that short probably since he was born. Medley had been growing his hair for three and a half years. He made a pair of massive donations to Locks of Love before the rest of his head was cleaned as part of the 2013 St. Baldrick’s event.

  • Tourism director resigns

    Nicky Reynolds came from Tennessee to become the executive director of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission in February of last year. In April, she will be returning to the Volunteer State, where she will become the vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
    Her final day as the Lebanon tourism director will be April 12.
    Reynolds said she has always been career-oriented.

  • March 22 was Lady Knights Day in Marion County

    In recognition of the Marion County Lady Knights winning the 2013 Sweet 16 and finishing the season 39-0, the Marion County Fiscal Court has approved a resolution declaring March 22 as Lady Knights Day.

    Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly told the team during the March 21 fiscal court meeting that the court and the entire county was proud of them for their accomplishments on and off the court.

  • Fiscal court meeting at 4 p.m. today

    The Marin County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21, on the second floor of the David Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Approval of minutes of the previous meeting

    - Consider proclamation of  “Marion County Lady Knights Day”

    - Consider request of Marion County Conservation District funding increase/special district

    - Presentation on employee term insurance options by Liberty National Insurance representative 

  • Special tourism meeting scheduled for today, March 21

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has scheduled a special called meeting for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in room 300 of the Centre Square Convention Center.

    The agenda for the meeting includes three items:

    - Annual review of the executive director

    - Way finding signs

    - New director search process

  • 4-H speech judges still needed

    The Marion County 4-H Speech program is in need of judges for this year’s speeches. Businesses, organizations and individuals are all welcomed and encouraged volunteer. While Lebanon Middle School and Glasscock Elementary have already completed their speeches, the remaining school speech dates are as follows:
    • March 21 - Lebanon Elementary
    • March 22 - Calvary Elementary
    • March 26 - St. Augustine
    • March 27 — West Marion Elementary
    • March 29 — St. Charles Middle
