  • Tibetan Buddhist monks to visit Marion County

    Tibetan Buddhist monks will be visiting Marion County next month.
    Mary Batt and Angela Selter spoke with members of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission about plans for a week (Oct. 7-13) of activities involving monks from the Labrang Tashi Kyil Monastery.
    Batt was representing the Friends of the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center, and Selter was there on behalf of the Marion County Public Library.

  • Family Fitness and Safety Day

    On Saturday, The Marion County Fitness and Nutrition Coalition hosted its eighth annual Family Fitness and Safety Day. The event was held at Graham Memorial Park and featured demonstrations and activities about fitness and safety. The event was free and open to the public.

  • Epps hired as Lady Knights’ head coach

    Anthony Epps was hired today, Sept. 13, to become the Lady Knights basketball team's head coach.
    Epps served as an assistant coach last season, and also served as the boys basketball coach during the 2010-11 season, until he resigned following an arrest for DUI and reckless driving.

  • Big wave

    Anyone who has driven into Lebanon along Campbellsville Highway has probably seen the large American flag at the top of the hill. That hill — and the flag — belong to Freddie Hilpp. The flag is 30 feet long by 20 feet high and flies from an 80-foot flagpole.
    “I just feel very patriotic,” Hilpp said. “I did it out of respect for our veterans, the ones who served and died for our country.”
    At night, the flag is illuminated by three 1,000 Watt lights.

  • MCHS Band grand champions at Russell County competition

    The Marion County High School Marching Band attended the Russell High School Marching Invitational in Russell Saturday, Sept. 7, and for the first time since 2009, the Marching Knights earned Grand Champion (first place overall) at a KMEA sanctioned event.
    The Marching Knights were also awarded first place, best percussion, best color guard in Class 4A, best overall music and best overall visual.

  • Marion County Heritage Center hosts Eddie Miles meet and greet

    The Marion County Heritage Center is proud to present a meet and greet event with Eddie Miles. Marion County native Eddie Miles has returned to the area after many years on the road for his summer concert series at Angelic Hall in Lebanon “A Tribute to Elvis and Country Legends.” His final weekend in this series will be Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14.

  • Free emergency operation class offered Sept. 24

    For the first time in Marion County, a basic emergency operations center class is being offered. The class will be held from 6-10 p.m., Sept. 24, on the second floor of the David R. Hourigan Government Building.
    According to Marion County Emergency Management Director Hayden Johnson, the class will provide information on what goes on at an emergency management center and who is responsible for the operation of the center.

  • Family Fitness and Safety Day is Saturday

    The Marion County Fitness and Nutrition Coalition will host its 8th Annual Family Fitness and Safety Day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14, at Graham Memorial Park. The free event is open to all children in grades PreK-6 and their families. The event will feature various fitness and safety activities for families and all those who participate will be eligible to win lots of great prizes at the end of the day. Registration will cut off at 2 p.m. and a guardian must be present for all children. For more information, please contact Jennifer Osborne at 270-692-3393.

  • First Hwy. 49 Yard Sale is this weekend

    The first Kentucky Highway 49 Yard Sale is scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 15.
    The yard sale will span from Liberty into Bardstown. In Marion County, it will include Bradfordsville, Lebanon, Loretto, Holy Cross and several places in between.

  • The Great Outhouse Blowout is Sept. 14

    Historic Penn’s Store will celebrate the area’s rural heritage this month with it’s hilarious and intriguing outhouse race, “The Great Outhouse Blowout.” It will all happen on Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 10 a.m., at 257 Penn's Store Road in Gravel Switch.
