  • School is delayed

    Marion County Public Schools are on a delayed schedule today, Jan 12.

    The delay is a result of road conditions in the aftermath of snow storms last last week.

  • Bluegrass festival this weekend in Lebanon

    The 2010 Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff is Jan. 8-9 at Marion County High School in Lebanon. J.D. Crowe and the New South are the headlining performers at this year's festival.

    Gary "Biscuit" Davis and the Hagar's Mountain Boys will return to perform again this year. John Cosby and the Bluegrass Drifters will play as well. New artists who will take the stage during the 2010 festival include Matt DeSpain and The Bluegrass All-Stars and comedian Rik Rogers.

  • Fiscal court meeting this afternoon

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. at the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    However, the start of the meeting may be delayed. Gov. Steve Beshear is scheduled to be in Lebanon at 3:30 p.m. to make an economic development announcement. County officials may be at the announcement, and County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly said that the announcement could affect the start of the fiscal court meeting.

    Here is the tentative agenda for today's meeting:

  • No school today

    There will be no school today, Jan. 8, in Marion County due to winter weather that has hit the area.   Today's forecast includes a few more possible snow showers throughout the day with winds of up to 10 to 20 miles per hour. The chance for snow is 30 percent. The high is only going to reach 23 degrees.   Tonight, a few more snow showers are expected with a low of 17 degrees and winds of five to 10 miles per hour.

  • Be prepared for cold weather

    The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for much of southern Indiana and central Kentucky, including Marion County and the surrounding area.

    Forecasters are predicting a 10 percent chance snow this afternoon and tonight, Jan. 5, and continued cold weather for the remainder of the week.

    The storm system that will be moving through the region is predicted to bring snow to central Kentucky during the day Thursday. Based on the lastest weather data, the NWS is predicting snowfall of up to four inches across the area.

  • Weather Advisory issued for Inter-County Energy service area

    The following is a press release from Inter-County Energy regarding the winter storm watch:

    The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Inter-County Energy service area in effect for Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon. Snow accompanied by cold, blowing Arctic air is expected to cause temperatures and wind chill factors to drop dramatically.

  • Loretto man indicted on 150 sex abuse counts

    Joseph Francis Bickett 46, of 1035 Holy Cross Road in Loretto was indicted for 150 counts of first-degree sex abuse and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender.

    According to the indictment, between September of 2005 and September of 2007, Bickett subjected another person to sexual contact by forcible compulsion.

    His bond was set at $25,000, and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

  • Lawson joins tourism commission

    When Jim McMurtry died Nov. 25, it created a vacancy on the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission.

    Dan Lawson, the president of the Lebanon-Marion County Restaurant Association, has been appointed to fill the remainder of McMurtry's term.

    The term will expire June 30, 2011.

  • Deadline to switch political party is Dec. 31

    If citizens want to change their party registration in time to participate in their party's primary election that determines nominees for United States Senator, United States Congressional Representatives, state legislative races, and other partisan offices, they must do so by Dec. 31.

    Kentucky state law requires any citizen who wishes to change his/her voter registration and also vote in that party's upcoming primary election must be registered with his/her new party by Dec. 31 of the preceding year.

  • Police investigating murder attempt

    The Lebanon Police are investigating an attempted murder that took place Christmas Day.

    According to the police report, Justin L. Edlen of Olympia Drive in Bardstown was shot at 43 Maple Street Apartments. He was taken to Spring View Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds to his upper abdomen and right arm. He was transported to the hospital by Marion County EMS.

    Edlen was transferred to University Hospital in Louisville where he is listed in stable condition.
