  • State police seeks Adair jail escapees

    From the Kentucky State Police

    On Wednesday, the Kentucky State Police Post 15 Columbia received a call at 11 p.m. of two escapees from the Adair County Regional Jail Class D Minimum Security Facility. Trooper Chris Saunders responded to the facility to discover Antonio Howard and Ira Boles had walked away.
    Boles age twenty six is from Florence described as a white male, 6'1, 150 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.  He was last seen wearing a red shirt, dark shorts, and dark shoes.

  • Sanitation worker from Loretto injured in Nelson County

    A sanitation worker was tossed in the air and landed on his shoulder as he was trying to cross Louisville Road/U.S. 31E Wednesday.
    According to a Nelson County Sheriff’s report, James V. Devine, 39, of Bardstown, was traveling northbound on Louisville Road. A garbage truck was stopped in the southbound lane.
    Robert E. Clark, of Loretto, was crossing the northbound lane of Louisville Road on foot.
    Devine stated that Clark walked into his lane of travel, according to the report.

  • Fiscal court to meet at 4 p.m. today

    The Marion County Fiscal Court will hold a special-called meeting at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 23, in room 201 of the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - Public hearing on county's five-year solid waste management plan

    - Resolution to designate Marion County as a "Single County Waste Management Area"

    - Resolution and agreement on road resurfacing using "flex funds"

  • Hugh C. Spalding is 100

    Hugh C. Spalding, long-time superintendent of Marion County Public Schools, celebrated his 100th birthday Aug. 13.
    Family members hosted a gathering at the St. Augustine Parish Hall Aug. 12.  
    His five children - Sarah Comi, Betsy Delmonico, Catherine Spalding, Rose Spalding, and Hugh Spalding, Jr. - and their spouses, Dick Comi, Neal Delmonico, Marty Johnson, and Will Denton attended the celebration.

    The descendants of George Washington and Edna Robinson Abell will hold their annual potluck family reunion on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the V.F.W. post on Veterans Drive starting at 11:30 a.m. Bring enough food, drinks, etc. for your family.
