  • Rio 2016

    The 2016 Summer Olympics officially got underway in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 5, and will continue until Aug. 21. For 16 days, more than 11,000 athletes will represent their country in 306 events, and will look to claim gold in their respective events. As of Sunday evening, Australia had received the most gold medals with three but the U.S. was tied with a host of other countries with seven total metals (these figures, of course, will change). Kosovo also made a little history of its own by winning its first-ever medal in any Olympic Games (and for good measure, it was gold).

  • Golf: Todd Abell wins Lebanon Country Club championship

    Todd Abell fired a one-under-par 70 in the opening round of the club championship at Lebanon Country Club and then held on to capture the title despite shooting an 80 in the final round.
    He led Matt Elkins and Joey Reed by five shots after the first day of play.
    Elkins and Taylor Brady, whose 79 left him nine shots behind, were able to catch Abell in the final round.

  • St. Charles and Lebanon Middle football teams merge

    Two teams who know each other well on the field as opponents are joining forces this season.
    The St. Charles Middle School and Lebanon Middle School football teams have merged together for the upcoming football season to form the Marion Middle Knights. The team is being coached by co-head coaches Brian Pirkle and Wayne Sickles.
    "It's a good deal for all involved," Sickles said. "I am looking forward to a great conference and hopefully winning the conference."

  • Vaught’s views: Morris family is looking forward to Lady Cats’ basketball season

    When it comes to playing basketball, Maci Morris has to have it in her blood.
    The Kentucky sophomore guard's mother, Patti, was a standout at Harlan High School and played at Transylvania. Her father, Lewis, was a standout athlete at Cumberland High School and went on to play at East Tennessee State and Cumberland College.

  • Southern Kentucky Katz win the Kaos Classic

    Southern Kentucky Katz won the Kaos Classic 8U tournament on May 28th at Trace Creek Park. The Southern Kentucky Katz beat the Lake Cumberland Cruisers in the championship game to go undefeated.
