  • Soccer tryouts in Nelson County

    Nelson County Elite will have tryouts for U-12 girls interested in playing competitive soccer for 2012-fall season. Scheduled date for tryouts are 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., June 5-6, at Dean Watts Park. Martin Bodkin, National C License Coach, will coach team.   • May moves to Morthland

    Marion County High School will soon be without an athletic trainer once again as current athletic trainer Jennifer May pursues another job opportunity at Morthland College in West Frankfort, Ill.
    After the departure of Glen Richardson in May of 2011, the Marion County School System agreed to an annual contract with KORT physical therapy of Lebanon. May was hired by KORT, and then appointed to be the athletic trainer at Marion County High School. May's first day at Marion County High School was July 25, 2011.

  • Team Grundy and Young succeed

    Well, it finally happened! After several bass tournaments where we didn't do so good, the team of Grundy and Young came through.
    It started early and never did let up. At first light a booya buzz bait paid excellent dividends. Even though John hates the rhythmic clack of the buzz bait the bass loved it and we were well on the way to an impressive limit. The bass loved it and we were well on the way to an impressive limit. Yep, 20 minutes and we...or rather I...had two bass at an estimated eight pounds.

  • 400 Mile Sale underway

    Hundreds of yard sales will set up all along historic Hwy. 68 starting today through June 5.

    Lebanon is centrally located on the route, so shoppers can travel north one day and south the next from Lebanon.

    Nearly every antique shop along the route will be offering special discounts and sidewalk sales.

    Shoppers can go to 400mile.com and click on yard sale locations to learn about other sales all along the route and some of the items people will be selling.

  • District Champions

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team defeated Campbellsville 10-0 and Taylor County 3-2 in the 20th District Tournament, securing a 5th Region tournament appearance.
    The Lady Knights' district championship makes the fourth time since fast pitch softball began at Marion County High School that the softball team has won the district title, the seventh overall since Marion County has had a softball team.  Five Lady Knights were selected for the All-Tournament team, including Colleen Rakes, Ashley Walls, Abby Miles, Anne Taylor Sandusky and McKenzie Reynolds.

  • Fire causes damage to Bell Hollow home

    The Lebanon Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire around 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening at 470 Bell Hollow Road.

    "The fire was contained to one bedroom," Lebanon Fire Chief Ricky Mattingly said.

    Mattingly said the homeowner Gill Sullivan was at home at the time of the fire with his family, but no one was injured. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The house did receive heat and smoke damage.

    "It's a big clean-up job," Mattingly said.
