  • Fiscal court meeting at 4 p.m. today

    The Marin County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 21, on the second floor of the David Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Approval of minutes of the previous meeting

    - Consider proclamation of  “Marion County Lady Knights Day”

    - Consider request of Marion County Conservation District funding increase/special district

    - Presentation on employee term insurance options by Liberty National Insurance representative 

  • Marion County to face Notre Dame in state final

    The Marion County Lady Knights (38-0) will face the 9th Region champion Notre Dame Pandas (29-5) for the state championship in the 2013 Girls Sweet 16 at 9 p.m. Eastern time/8 p.m. Central time in Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.

    Marion County has rolled through its first three opponents in this year's Sweet 16. The Lady Knights are averaging 69 points per game and allowing 41.3 points. Notre Dame is averaging 56.3 points per game in the state tournament, while allowing 50.7 points.

     

  • Marion County defeats Anderson County in final four
  • Special tourism meeting scheduled for today, March 21

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission has scheduled a special called meeting for 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in room 300 of the Centre Square Convention Center.

    The agenda for the meeting includes three items:

    - Annual review of the executive director

    - Way finding signs

    - New director search process

  • KSP investigating a murder/suicide in Gravel Switch

    The Kentucky State Police are investigating the deaths of Judith Duncil, 52, and George Merrick, 62, both of Gravel Switch.
    KSP Post 15 received a call from Casey County dispatch at 11:46 p.m., on Friday, March 15, reporting that they had received a call of shots fired at a residence on Little South Road in Gravel Switch, according to a KSP media release.

  • School bus involved in accident Thursday morning

    A Marion County school bus was involved in a two-vehicle accident at approximately 7 a.m., Thursday, March 14, near the Taylor County/Marion County line, but no children were injured.
    The accident occurred nine miles west of Lebanon on US 68.
    According to the Kentucky State Police, Goebel R. Morgeson, 81, of Lebanon was driving a 2006 International bus west on US 68 and was attempting a turnabout when he pulled into the path of a 1999 Honda being driven by Burrell Hartley, 50, of Oglethorpe, Ga.

  • Marion County Public Schools will be closed Friday

    The Marion County Board of Education approved several amendments to the school calendar Tuesday evening, including the dismissal of school this Friday as the Lady Knights continue their quest to win the state championship.

  • Going bald for a cause

    Sue Beavers has beaten cancer once already, and she is confident she can do it again.
    In 1996, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In January, doctors confirmed that she has non-small cell lung cancer.
    “They call it the non-smoker's lung cancer,” Beavers said.
    She has already started treatments, and she has two more chemotherapy treatments scheduled, one for later this week and another in April.
    “I've got hope,” Beavers said. “I think I can beat it. I'm going to have faith.”
