  • Fiddlin' around again

    The Kentucky Bluegrass Music Kickoff is back, and it keeps getting bigger.

    This year's festival will be held Jan. 8-9 at Marion County High School.

    Gary "Biscuit" Davis is back again. Friday night, he'll be the featured performer during "Come Play with Biscuit," which is an opportunity for Bluegrass musicians to jam with the three-time national banjo champion.

  • Knights prepare for Eagles

    On Friday night, the Marion County High School boys basketball team travels to Campbellsville High School to take on the Eagles (6-2) in district play.

    Both teams are currently undefeated in district play and are looking for an advantage in gaining the top seed during the 20th District tournament.

    According to Knights Head Coach Tim Peterson, senior guard Bryton Taylor leads the Eagles. Taylor is a six-foot-two-inch shooting guard who can play inside and outside.

    Another threat for the Eagles is senior forward Thomas Downs.

  • Football team to begin off-season conditioning

    If Jeff Robbins preaches physicality then this is where his teaching begins.

    The Marion County High School football team will head back into the weight room to start building the foundation for next season, just a little over a month after their final game of the season.

    Robbins said the team, including current eighth-graders, is to report to off-season conditioning on Jan. 4 after school at the MCHS fitness center. The players will begin lifting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's for the remainder of the spring semester.

  • Lady Knights beat Manual for the crown

    The Marion County High School girls basketball (10-0) team knocked off DuPont Manual (7-2) 44-42 on Tuesday night, Dec. 22, in the finals of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic High School.

    In a match up against the state's top two teams, the Lady Knights prevailed despite shooting 29 percent from the floor. The Lady Knights held a 38-32 rebounding edge and forced Manual into 17 turnovers.

  • Offices will close and trash pick-up will change for New Year's holiday

    The New Year's holiday will affect the schedule for local government offices.

    The County Judge's Office will be closed Dec. 31 through Jan. 3 and reopen Monday, Jan. 4.

    The Marion County Clerk's Office, the PVA Office and the Marion Circuit Clerk's Office will close Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

    The Marion County Health Department will be closed Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

    Lebanon City Hall and the Marion County Sheriff's Office will be closed Jan. 1.

    Garbage pick-up will be affected by the holidays as well.

  • Another candidate files for magistrate's seat

    A third candidate has filed to run for the District E magistrates seat.

    Charlotte Brady Mattingly of McElroy Pike is the latest candidate to toss her hat into the ring.

    Mike Peterson of Miller Pike and incumbent Roger "Cotton" Smothers of Campbellsville Road previously filed to run.

    In addition to the local races, several state positions will be up for election in 2010.

    So far four candidates have officially filed to run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Jim Bunning.

  • Assistance for heating costs available

    Do you need assistance with your heating costs?

    Beginning Monday, Jan. 4, the local Community Action office will be assisting low-income families with the LIHEAP CRISIS Program.

    To be eligible for crisis funds, you must be in a heating crisis. You must have a past due/disconnect notice from the electric or natural gas company, or be out of bulk fuel within four days if using propane, fuel oil or kerosene, or wood, or a formal eviction notice from your landlord if heating expenses are included in the rent.

  • Special Election set for Feb. 2

    Monday, Dec. 28, Gov. Steve Beshear issued a writ of election to fill the vacant 24th District seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives. The district includes Casey and Marion counties and a portion of Pulaski County.

    The seat became vacant when Jimmy Higdon resigned from the House after he was elected to fill the vacant 14th District state senate seat.

  • Knights finally fall in Clinton County

    An undefeated run through the regular season ended for the Knights last week in Clinton County during the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic.

    After starting 6-0, the Marion County High School boys basketball team faltered in the final seconds against Rockcastle County. After enduring a three game skid, the Knights were back on track with back-to-back wins in the Mordecai's Holiday Homecoming Classic at the Roby Dome over the weekend.
