  • Lady Knights face Mercy in first round slug fest

    In a battle between two top 10 teams, Marion County looks to escape the first round unscathed in their regular season rematch with Mercy Academy (23-8).

    In their last battle, the Lady Knights used a strong second half to thump Mercy 69-53 at the Roby Dome. Freshman Kyvin Goodin-Rogers had a breakout game with 25 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks.

  • Pickerill withdraws from primary

    Bill Pickerill has announced that he is withdrawing as a candidate for 24th District state representative in the Republican primary, according to a letter recently submitted to The Lebanon Enterprise and The Casey County News.

    According to the Secretary of State's website, Pickerill was not listed as officially withdrawn as of press time, but Pickerill said he would be contacting the Secretary of State's office that day.

  • 2010 St. Baldrick's event set for March 20

    For the fourth time in as many years, Marion Countians will be offering up their heads in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.

    The 2010 St. Baldrick's will be held from 1-3 p.m. March 20 at the St. Augustine Catholic School gymnasium. The event is a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which raises money toward children's cancer research.

    "We believe if you can find a cure for kids, you can find a cure for all," said Eric Daugherty, the event organizer for Citizen's National Bank.

  • Chicken casserole is easy, delicious

    This week's recipe is one of my favorite ways to cook chicken.

    It's easy, tastes delicious and is great with rice, potatoes or polenta.

    I've been making it a long time. I recently found the recipe in my mom's recipe box where I had sent it to her and it was dated December 1970.

    You can use cut-up whole chickens, breast pieces or legs and thighs (my dad's favorite.)

    Try it; you'll like it.

    BBQ Chicken in Casserole

    2 chickens, cut up

    1 t. salt

    1 c. flour

    1 stick butter

  • Marion County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday

    Marion County Public Schools Superintendent Donald Smith has announced that school will be closed Wednesday, March 10.

    The public schools are closed because the Marion County Lady Knights are competing in the girls Sweet 16 basketball tournament in Bowling Green. Marion County is scheduled to play Mercy in the first round at 1:30 p.m. Central time (2:30 p.m. Eastern time).

    St. Augustine Grade School will be open Wednesday.

  • City police to reconsider traffic enforcement grant

    The City of Lebanon has received several complaints regarding the recent traffic enforcement effort by the Lebanon Police Department, Mayor Gary Crenshaw said during Monday's city council meeting.

    The department received a $19,300 federal grant last year to pay for overtime for officers to enforce traffic laws, such as speeding and seat belt requirements.

  • Sweet 16 games will be available online

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association and iHigh.com have announced that video of all the games of the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16 will available online.

    Visit http://khsaa.ihigh.com/ for details.

    The opening round through the semifinals will be available on a delayed basis. Saturday night's championship game will stream live, however.

    The Marion County Lady Knights face Mercy Academy in the first round today at 1:30 p.m. Central time (2:30 p.m. Eastern).

  • Unbound

    Charlene Hampton Holloway marched for equal rights and equal treatment in Louisville in the 1960s, and her grandfather was the first African-American to open a florist shop in Kentucky.

    But after she spoke during the NAACP's Black History Celebration Sunday, she said she wanted the audience to take away something else.

    "The shackles of the slaves are off," Holloway said. "We are not bound any more."

  • Players named to all-district teams

    After the dust settled on the 20th District tournament, several Lady Knights were named to the regular season and postseason all-district teams.

    Marion County High School junior Ann Morgan Reynolds was named to the 20th District All-Academic team along with others from Adair, Taylor and Campbellsville.

    Sophomore Bre Elder, freshman Kyvin Goodin-Rogers and freshman Makayla Epps were named to the 20th District All-Season team as well as the All-Tournament team.

    Also named to the All-Tournament team were freshman Patrice Tonge and senior Andrea King.

  • Marion County girls are dreaming of state title

    Now the real season begins.

    After bowing out in the Fifth Region final last season, on the brink of the state tournament, this Lady Knights team looks to make a title run through the Fifth Region tournament.

    For Marion County (30-1), that run began against North Hardin (13-13) on Monday night in Hart County. The Lady Knights won 59-38 after only leading 27-23 at the half. Makayla Epps walked away with player of the game honors.
