  • Lady Knights named to All Region team

    Recently two Marion County High School girls soccer players were named to the 15th Region regular season all-region team. Senior Christan Montgomery was named first team all-region while freshman Makayla Epps was named second team all-region.

    Montgomery got the nod because of her defensive skills, often times serving as a brick wall in front of the goal as the Lady Knights goalie. She took a barrage of shots against Boyle County early in the season as the Lady Knights lost in respectable fashion.

  • Mattingly earns a trip to state

    Finally, his time came. Marion County High School senior Matthew Mattingly finally achieved a goal he's had for two years by qualifying for the state cross country meet on Saturday during the region meet.

    Mattingly finished seventh out of 78 runners to qualify.

    "He was a shoe in last year but he pulled a hamstring. He's really been working hard," Cross Country Head Coach Sherbie King said. "His goal this year was to go to state. I told him before the meet he had to at least get in the top 10."

  • Lebanon City Council to meet Monday evening

     The Lebanon City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday evening in regular session at city hall.

    According to the agenda, a delegation is scheduled to discuss Sunday liquor sales with the council.

    Other items on the agenda include a take over agreement for Centre Square and a resolution accepting a grant, approving an agreement, authorizing an amendment of the local budget and authorizing the Lebanon Water Works to sign all related documents.

  • LaRue looks for revenge

    Revenge is never sweeter than in the playoffs.

    Friday night the LaRue County Hawks (7-4) hope to avenge a 33-7 home loss earlier this season to the Marion County Knights (9-2).

    "They have a lot of emotion, you can tell on video. It's going to be a knock down drag out I think," Knights Head Coach Jeff Robbins said.

    The Hawks are also looking to get a win against Robbins, who is 4-0 against LaRue County while serving as head coach for the Knights.

  • Knights set school record for longest win streak

    A slow start didn't stop Marion County High School (9-2) from nearly hitting the 70-point mark Friday night against Breckinridge County High School (3-8) in the first round of the Class AAAA playoffs at John J. Boswell Field. It didn't stop them from setting the school record for longest winning streak at nine games either.

    Breckinridge led the Knights 14-7 early in the second quarter, shocking everyone in attendance. The Tigers passing game especially looked sharp.

  • First reading of property maintenance ordinance approved

    The Lebanon City Council voted unanimously in favor of the first reading of a proposed property maintenance ordinance Monday night.

    One council member did raise a concern, however.

    Councilman Kenny Marrett said he would support the first reading of the ordinance, but he planned to propose an amendment to do away with the five-member property maintenance code enforcement board included in the ordinance. Instead of having appeals go through a board, Marrett said he would prefer to have appeals come through the city council.

    When then-Governor Ronald Reagan introduced returning POW John McCain at a speaking engagement in 1974, the future president asked, "Where do we find such men?"

    He was speaking of many veterans, when he answered, "We find them in our streets, in the office, the shops and the working places of our country and on the farms."

    In other words, President Reagan was referring to ordinary people accomplishing extraordinary things. And it isn't just the men.

  • Candidates selected for Senate race

    The Democrats and Republicans have each selected their nominees for the special election to fill the vacant District 14 state senate seat.

    Jimmy Higdon of Lebanon is the Republican nominee. Higdon is the state representative for the 24th District, which includes Marion and Casey counties and part of Pulaski County.

    The Democratic nominee is Bardstown resident Jodie Haydon. He previously served as a state representative in the Kentucky 50th House District, which includes Nelson County and parts of Bullitt and Spencer counties.

  • Deputy Sheriff's cruiser collides with two horses

    Two horses are dead and a Marion County Deputy Sheriff's cruiser is totaled after a one-vehicle accident on Sunday evening

    The collision occurred at 8:53 p.m. on KY 49, approximately three miles south of Lebanon.

    Marion County Sheriff Deputy Tim Abell, 48, of Lebanon was driving a 2007 Crown Vic police cruiser north on KY 49 when he came around a curve and struck two horses, which were in the roadway. Abell was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
