  • Try this for Easter dessert

    Want a new dessert to fix for Easter?
    Here is an easy and delicious one I’m mighty fond of, Hot Fudge Brownie Cake. I had seen the recipe before, in some cookbooks, but when I was looking through a Southern Living magazine a few years ago, the full color picture of it really caught my eye.
    I’ve made it many times since, and it is always a hit. In fact, the last time I made it I substituted hot coffee for the boiling water in the recipe and I thought it was even more fabulous. Add some vanilla ice cream, and it is to die for.

  • Judge publicly reprimanded

    Marion Circuit Judge Allan Bertram has been reprimanded for failing to rule on cases in a timely manner.

    The Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission has ruled in an "Order of Public Reprimand" that it has received complaints that Bertram failed to dispose of judicial matters "promptly and efficiently."

    The document is dated Jan. 14 and was published in the March 2011 issue of "Bench & Bar," which is a bi-monthly publication of the Kentucky Bar Association.

  • Drug testing committee learning from others

    Rather than starting from scratch, the Marion County Public Schools Drug Testing Implementation Committee has sought input from other communities that have drug testing in place.

    On April 14, Isaac Frye of the Washington County Heartland Coalition, nurse Phyllis Gentry from Nelson County High School, and Adair County High School Principal Troy Young met with the Marion County drug testing committee.

    While there are differences in the details, all three said drug testing has been a deterrent for students.

  • Ford murder trial rescheduled

    The trial for a Campbellsville woman accused of killing her police officer husband has been postponed.

    Tonya Ford was in court Tuesday of last week for a hearing in the case that accuses her of shooting David M. Ford on Feb. 10, 2009. Ford pleaded not guilty in November.

    Tuesday's hearing before Taylor Circuit Judge Dan Kelly lasted about 15 minutes. Kelly reset the trial to Monday, Aug. 22.

  • Government offices closing for Easter holiday

    With Easter this Sunday, April 24, several government offices will be closed for the holiday.

    The Marion Circuit Clerk's Office, the Marion County Clerk's Office, Marion County Judge/Executive's Office and the Marion County Sheriff's Office will close at noon on Friday, April 22, and reopen at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 25. Calls for service from the sheriff's office should go through the Lebanon Police Dispatch at 692-2121.

  • Two MAC inmates escape, apprehended within an hour

    At 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 16, the Lebanon Police dispatch was notified that two men in jumpsuits were seen running across a field on Miller Pike. At 6:30 p.m., both men were in custody.

    Jeffrey Lee Crisp and Jorge Figueroa were both inmates who had fled from Marion Adjustment Center. Both were taken to the Marion County Detention Center on charges of second-degree escape and second-degree fleeing and evading police.

  • Movie trailer being filmed in Lebanon April 29-May 1

    If you've ever wanted a role in a movie, you have your chance April 30.

    Cinema Lexzicon is casting for extras to appear in the trailer for its production "Architect of Chaos." Director William Lee described the movie as an action-packed thriller about God, the devil and lots of bad guys.

    The trailer for the movie will be filmed April 29-May 1. Extras are needed for a police scene to be filmed at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

  • Board approves 2011-12 school calendar

    The Marion County Board of Education voted to approve the 2011-12 school calendar Thursday, but the decision wasn't unanimous.

    The board had two calendars to choose from, and the main differences between the two were concerning the starting day, fall break, and Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. After more than a 30-minute discussion, the calendar chosen by the majority of the board wasn't the calendar Board Chairman Michael Mullins thought was best for students.

  • KSP investigating murder of 22-year-old

    No arrests have been made in connection with the death of a Loretto man who was killed Wednesday. However, the Kentucky State Police have spoken with the victim's girlfriend, and a Bardstown man has spoken with the state police and the Nelson County Sheriff's Department about the murder.

    Twenty-three people (18 men and five women) have applied to be Marion County's next superintendent. The screening committee held its first meeting in closed session Thursday to begin reviewing the applications.
