    Band director named
    Lynn Looper, 27-year-old director of the Greenville High School Band, has been appointed to lead the new Marion County High School’s band that will be organized this fall. Mrs. Ralph Abner, former director of the local band and now vocal music instructor in the county schools, will assist in the preliminary organization this summer of the new band.

  • Knights baseball team has tough week

    The Marion County Knights varsity baseball team lost three games last week, putting the team's overall record at 11-14, while their district standings are 2-4. The Knights were set to head to West Jessamine on Saturday afternoon, but rain forced the game to be cancelled.

    Marion County 3, Garrard County 12

    The Knights went on the road to face Garrard County Friday night, where they came up short in the outing 12-3.

    It was hard to narrow down just one topic this week for my column, so I decided to try to incorporate all three things that were on my mind.

  • Elder selected to All-Star team

    Marion County Lady Knight, senior Bre Elder, has been selected to be a member of the 2012 Kentucky All-Star girls' basketball team. The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation announced members of the team on Monday of last week.

    "It's just an honor to be considered one of the top 12 best female athletes in the state of Kentucky," Elder said. "I'm definitely blessed, and I thank God each and every day for giving me this opportunity."

  • Knights tennis team close out regular season with win over Casey County

    The Marion County Knights tennis team played Casey County Wednesday on the road, where they came away with a 7-2 victory in their last regular match of the season.

    In singles action, Alex Spalding defeated Ryan Martin 8-0, and Noah Swencki won his match against Taylor Leigh 8-0. Marion County's Jacob Burdette beat Clay Cannon 9-7, and Durbin Richardson fell to Casey County's Skylar Wright 4-8.  Ryker Cassidy defeated Hunter Pierce 9-7, while Marion County's Jonah Gillespie lost to Luke Salyers 7-9.

  • Lady Knights fall to Elizabethtown

    On April 27, the Marion County Lady Knights tennis team played Elizabethtown, where they lost their match. The match scheduled for Monday of last week against Central Hardin was canceled due to rain.

    In singles action, Taylor Corbett lost to Elizabethtown's Natalie Fiepke 1-6, 0-6. Marion County's Alyssa Farmer lost to Anne Lauren Fiepke. Allie Evans lost to Elizabethtown's Lauren Berger 3-6, 3-6.
