  • Bill aimed at improving education

    The 2013 General Assembly Session is nearing its end with the Senate still working hard to ensure important bills and resolutions are being considered and passed. Last week, the Senate addressed issues related to education, victim protection, and drugs, among others.

  • Changes to ‘pill mill’ bill approved

    One of the cardinal rules of every legislative session is that as the calendar gets shorter, the number of working hours each day invariably grows longer.
    Last week, the last full one on the General Assembly’s schedule, proved to be no different.
    It began on a high note, when on Tuesday Gov. Beshear signed into law legislation making some minor but needed changes to last year’s landmark ‘pill mill’ legislation, which has already played a major role in cutting back the illegal tide of prescription drugs that kills three Kentuckians a day.

  • The end of an era

    Laura G. (Dolly) Brock and her late husband, Claude Alex Brock, were the longest, continuous, family-owned county newspaper publishers in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 
    Dolly, 91, passed away at 5:05 p.m., March 4, 2013.

  • Inter-County promotes Simple Saver Program

    In an effort to further promote the Simple Saver program, Inter-County Energy   is participating in an outbound calling program through Utility Partners of America (UPA).  Representatives with UPA began contacting Inter-County members in February with an opportunity to receive credit on their electric bill for allowing the co-op to place a load control switch on their air conditional and/or water heater.  UPA will be making the calls on behalf of Inter-County and will handle the installation of the load control switch.

    Jesse and Sydney Cox of Finley announce the birth of a 9-pound, 7.5-ounce daughter, Allie Marie Cox, born Feb. 6, 2013 at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
    Maternal grandparents are Thomas Miller of Gravel Switch and Lottie Miller of Louisiana. Paternal grandparents are Rodger and Betty Cox of Finley. Great-grandparents are Evelyn Burress, Haskell Cox, and Arthur Ozenne.
