    The Johnson Chapel AME Church of Springfield will be celebrating the 12 Tribes of Israel Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Michelle Washington is the pastor.

    Pastoral appreciation
    First Baptist Church on N. Depot St. will hold it’s 23 Pastoral Appreciation Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. Guest speaker will be Rev. Ronnie Turner from New Zion Baptist Church in Columbia.

    Reports from the KY State Police
    - A one-vehicle injury accident occurred Friday, Nov 4, at approximately 11:20 p.m. Charles Tungate, 39, of Elk Horn was driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle south on KY 49 two miles north of Bradfordsville. He crossed the centerline, overcorrected and lost control of the motorcycle, before leaving the roadway. Tungate, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Spring View Hospital where he was treated and released. Tungate then was lodged in Marion County Detention Center, charged with driving under the influence.

  • Local man becomes a state trooper

    The Kentucky State Police Academy presented diplomas to 60 new troopers, including Billy J. Begley, 28, of Marion County, during ceremonies held in Frankfort on Sunday, Oct. 30. Their addition to the force brings the agency’s strength to a total of 914 troopers serving the citizens of the Commonwealth.
    The new troopers started a 23-week training cycle on May 22, 2011 in a class that consisted of 81 cadets. Ten failed initial physical testing during the first two hours. Eleven more resigned during the weeks of constant mental and physical challenges that followed.
