  • Horse show grand champion

    Emerson Blandford, daughter of Sharon and Perry Blandford of Nashville, Tenn., participated in the Stones River Pony Club Horse show on March 17. Emerson received the Grand Champion Award for combined jumping and dressage. She also received first place for combined jumping and dressage and fourth place for dressage. Emerson is the granddaughter of Doug and Barbara Wright and Phyllis and Joe Blandford of Lebanon.

  • Military Appreciation 5K is April 21

    The seventh annual Military Appreciation Day (MAD) 5K will be held at 7 a.m., Saturday, April 21, at Idle-Hour City Park in Springfield. After the race, there will be an entire day of family events. For more information, go to the MAD 5K facebook page or register on www.active.com.

  • SCC Patriots baseball teams team up to help tornado victims

    On Friday, March 9, the University of the Cumberlands (UC) Patriots and the St. Catharine College Patriots baseball teams partnered together in an effort to help the people affected by the tornado damage that occurred throughout Kentucky recently.
    Although fierce competitors on the diamond, the two teams decided to come together to lend support to the East Bernstadt area and the families that desperately are searching for relief. Both schools are within 80 miles of East Bernstadt with students that are attending both institutions from the area.

  • First turkey: Gaddie

    Brooklyn Gaddie killed her first turkey on April 7. It weighed 21 pounds, had a 10-inch beard and one-inch spurs. She is the daughter of Greg and Jill Gaddie.

  • Indoor soccer champs

    The Marion County Snappers U12 Indoor Soccer Team placed first in the winter 2 indoor soccer session at Kentucky Indoor Soccer and Sports in Lexington.

  • Fiscal court meets Thursday, April 5

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda for today's meeting includes:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting.

    - Budget transfers

    - Resolutions for National Autism Awareness Month in Marion County and proclaiming of April 23-29 as the Centennial Celebration of Ursuline Education and Ministry in Marion County,

    -   Transfer of funds for Marion County WMA to KDFW to Administer

  • County offices to close early Friday

    Several Marion County services will be affected by the Easter weekend, Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly has announced.

    The Marion County Road Department will run a shortened sanitation work schedule on Friday, April 6. The department will close as soon as the routes are finished that day, and the garbage trucks may run earlier than usual on Friday. Residents are asked to put their trash out earlier than normal for pick up on Friday morning.

    David and Lori Lowry of Texas announce the birth of a 6-pound, 12.4-ounce daughter, Alexis Maxine Lowry, born Feb. 20, 2012, in Athens, Texas.
    Grandparents are Lynn and Joan Smith of Pine Creek, Texas, Steve Lowry of Texas and Barbara Gomez of Illinois. Great-grandparents are Maxine Wilkerson of Illinois, Gene Lowry of Florida, Ruth Clifton of Owenton and the late Dave Clifton, Virgie Smith of Elizabethtown and the late James “Red” Smith of Phillipsburg.
    Alexis has one half-sister, Kaitlan Lowry, and one brother, Kristian Lowry, both of Illinois.
