  • Shooting crows, but not ready to eat any

     Once again I’m looking at an early deadline as I write this! And, once again it’ll be short. The upside is that you’ll have to wade through so much less  ****!  I’m figuring you know what I’m talking about!

    Tried something the other day. Course my grandfather and his “eat what ya kill” philosophy would have been pretty disappointed, but I just couldn’t stomach “eating crow.”

  • Kindergarten, preschool registration is Friday

    Marion County Public Schools kindergarten and preschool registration will be held at all elementary schools on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 from 12-6 p.m.
    (*If school is canceled on this day, registration will then be moved to Friday, Jan. 31, from 12-6 p.m.)
    Registration paperwork will be at the elementary school in the district in which you reside. Children who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2014 should register for kindergarten classes. Students who are currently enrolled in the four-year-old preschool program should also register for kindergarten.

  • Bill would prohibit drivers' cellphone use near schools, in work zones in Kentucky

    FRANKFORT — On Labor Day weekend in 2007, Hillary Coltharp, then 26, tried to return a text message on her cellphone while driving. She lost control of her convertible on Interstate 24 in McCracken County, resulting in a horrific crash.
    The accident dramatically changed her and her family's lives. With the family's support, her story is being used today by police and public highway officials in Kentucky to urge state lawmakers to adopt tougher measures on phone usage while driving.

  • State issues grants to clean up illegal dumps in 24 counties

    Frankfort – The Energy and Environment Cabinet Monday announced that about $1.36 million in grant funding has been awarded by the Kentucky Pride Fund for cleanup of 129 illegal dumps in 24 counties across the state.
    These counties have been awarded grants: Breathitt, Bullitt, Carlisle, Christian, Clark, Crittenden, Cumberland, Elliott, Green, Hart, Henderson, Lee, Leslie, Lincoln, Logan, Madison, Magoffin, Marion, Mason, Warren, Wayne, Whitley, Wolfe and Woodford.
