  • Laws against sagging pants

    I often read my hometown newspaper, The Moultrie (Ga.) Observer online and keep up with folks I've known for years. I'm also interested in what actions governmental bodies act upon.
    Recently, the council held second reading on a measure updating an ordinance aimed at public indecency, most notably, at people who wear sagging pants, exposing their underwear, and backsides, to the world.
    The old ordinance states in its entirety: “It shall be unlawful for any person within this city to commit any act of public indecency.”

  • New challenge for new coach

    Before he was named the new baseball coach at Marion County High School, Patrick Campbell had a nonchalant attitude about interest in the position when he spoke to his father Eugene.

    But that changed when the 2003 MCHS graduate was selected to head the program after the resignation of Chad Spalding.

    A bat cuts through the thick air and a dry and stingy slap cracks as a ball hits home into a catcher’s mitt. With command, an iron like fist clenches while the muscles in the forearm tighten and flex. A voice bellows, “Strike one!”

    The voice belongs to Tony Coleman.

  • Haydens celebrate anniversary


    George and Sarah Hayden will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 29, 2013. The couple was married at St. Charles Church on June 29, 1963.
    George is retired from General Electric in Louisville. Sarah is the former Sarah Downs. The couple has five children, Eugene, Curtis, Eric, Vicky and Robby Hayden; and several grandchildren.

    Jerry and Sharon Wheatley of Lebanon announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jordan Ashley Wheatley, to Justin Wade Buck, son of Mitch Buck and Jane Carter of Campbellsville.
    Wheatley is a graduate of Marion County High School and is employed at Curtis Maruyasu.
    Buck is a graduate of Marion County High School and is employed at Curtis Maruyasu.
    The wedding will take place at 6 p.m. June 29, 2013, at the bride’s parent’s home, 1470 Loretto Road, Lebanon, with a reception to follow.

    a reunion Sunday, June 30, at Loretto City Hall in Loretto. Potluck will begin at 12:30 p.m.
