  • 2011-12 new student registration is Feb. 4

    School registration for children who will be entering school in Marion County Public Schools for the first time in the fall of 2011 will be conducted at all elementary school centers on Friday, Feb. 4, from 12 - 6 p.m.
    Children who will be five years old on or before Oct. 1, should register for kindergarten classes.  Students who are in the 4-year-old program during the 2010-11 school year should register for kindergarten.

  • Retired Boyle County superintendent now acting superintendent

    The Marion County Board of Education voted 3-1 in favor of hiring Steve Burkich as the acting superintendent of Marion County Public Schools.

    Board member DeLane Pinkston was not present at the special-called meeting Friday, Jan. 28, and board member Bernard Miles cast the lone dissenting vote.

  • Brady pleads guilty to attempted murder

    Joseph Timothy Brady plead guilty to attempted murder stemming from an incident July 25,  2010.

    Brady, 46, of 25 Shreve Lane in Lebanon also plead guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Charges of first-degree persistent felony offender and second-degree persistent felony offender have been dismissed.

    According to documents in the court file, law enforcement officials were contacted by Brady's brother, who reported that Brady was intoxicated and shooting a shotgun. According to the report, Brady had taken a shot at his father.

  • Hutchinson gets 15 years for manslaughter

    Tabitha K. Hutchinson has been sentenced to 15 years in prison as a result of an July 14, 2009, automobile collision that resulted in the death of a baby.

    Hutchinson, 28, of 218 Chestnut Street in Lebanon plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault (two counts), DUI second offense, operating on a suspended/revoked license and failure to provide proof of insurance.

    According to documents in the court file, Hutchinson tested positive for butalbital, hydrocodone and tramadol in the aftermath of the accident.

  • School board to discuss appointing acting superintendent Friday

    The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting for 3:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the board office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    According to the agenda, they board will go into executive session per KRS 61.810(1)(F). This subsection of the open meetings law allows an executive session to consider the appointment, discipline or dismissal of an employee.

    The board will consider appointing an acting superintendent and approve the minutes of its previous meeting.

  • No school Thursday, Jan. 27

    Marion County schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 27, due to poor road conditions.

    The National Weather Service is predicting a chance of flurries Wednesday night with a low temperature around 22 degrees.

    The weather service is predicting a high around 35 degrees on Thursday and a 20 percent chance of snow Thursday night.
