  • Chicken and broccoli salads are oldies but goodies

Here are two cool summer salads you will really like, one chicken and one broccoli.  I’ve featured them both in this column before, and they are in my cookbook.  They are recipes I return to again and again.
The Hawaiian Chicken Salad recipe was given to me by my friend Pat Colley (mother of Andy, local radio celebrity.)  I made it this past weekend because my daughters Rachel and Stevie were there, and they both love it.  It’s really delicious, and this recipe makes a lot, so it’s great for a pot-luck.

  • It’s important to stay hydrated

Over the past several articles we’ve talked about various styles of artificial baits and some very basic techniques for using them.
So what else do we need when we’re going to spend time outdoors, especially this time of year? It’s readily obtainable, inexpensive and comes in one basic style. And this item can save your life.
Do ya think I’m talking about PDFs (personal floatation devices)? While PDFs are indeed a mandatory item for safety, they’ll be talked about in another article.

  • 11-12-year-olds are state runners-up

The Marion County 11-12-year-old All-Star softball team made a tremendous run in the state tournament, making it to the final game Friday night. However, the locals couldn’t force the if-necessary game against North Laurel as they were defeated by a score of 9-4, taking home the runner-up trophy for the state tournament. The All-Stars had lost their game on Tuesday of last week to the same North Laurel team to put them in the loser’s bracket, but defeated South Shore Thursday to play another day.
