  • Tourist commission, city council meet Monday

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission and the Lebanon City Council are both scheduled to meet Monday, July 9.

    The tourist commission is scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m. in room 300 at the Centre Square Convention Center.

    Items on the agenda include minutes of the June 11 meeting, the treasurer's report, the executive director's report and old business.

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. at city hall.

  • Weather causes delays in Little League district baseball tournaments

    The 9-10, 11, and 11-12 Little League district tournament games in Jamestown have been affected by rain and lightning delays.

  • State softball tournament starts Saturday

    The 5th Region champion Marion County 9-10 girls all-star softball team will play in the state Little League Tournament this weekend in Winchester.

    Pool play will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m.Sunday and 5 p.m. on Monday. If they win two of the three games they will advance to Wednesday at 6 p.m.

  • Discussion of burn ban, fire risks on fiscal court agenda

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. today, July 5, in Room 201 of the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda includes a discussion of fire dangers, a burn ban, fire risks and fireworks caution.

    Other items on the agenda include:

    - Minutes of the June 21 meeting

    - Approval of a Homeland Security grant

    - Review and possible approval of a county employee disability insurance coverage

    - First reading of a Maker's Mark Distillery project bond ordinance

  • Lebanon man is arrested for stabbing in Springfield

    A Springfield man was injured after an altercation with a Lebanon man on Saturday morning at Carmona's on Perrvyille Road in Springfield.

    A verbal disagreement between Javier Lopez, of Springfield, and Janitzio Rodriguez, of Lebanon, turned physical when Rodriguez hit Lopez over the head with a bottle and then slit his throat with a knife.

    Rodriguez then fled the scene.

    Springfield City Police Officer A.J. Lewis said the incident occurred around 12:57 a.m. on Saturday.

  • Fire damages Pine View Drive home

    Firefighters from Marion and Nelson counties worked for hours to extinguish a fire July 3 at 225 Pine View Drive. The fire was reported to Lebanon Dispatch at 11:28 a.m., and firefighters remained on the scene until 7:56 p.m. to keep the fire contained.

    Loretto Fire Chief Tommy Hamilton said an electrical fire started in the main living room of the log home. It was difficult to extinguish because the fire was in a spot that was difficult to reach.

    Field Day is held
    The annual elementary school Field Day competition was held recently.
    Some of the winners were Kathy Johnson, David Bell, John Calhoun, Theresa Miles and Martha Taylor.

    Caldwell is top hitter
    Annette Caldwell is currently the leading hitter in the Marion County Women’s Softball League.
    She is followed by Wanda McKay, Linda Porter, Jan Bradshaw, Mary Jo Higdon and Donna Egbert.
