    The Marion County eight and under All-Star baseball team concluded its season participating in the Nelson County tournament on Aug. 25-26. They finished the tournament with the second place trophy.   • SCC Athletic department to host golf scramble

    The inaugural St. Catharine College Athletics Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at Maywood Golf Course in Bardstown. Registration begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
    "We are excited about hosting this tournament for the first time," said St. Catharine College athletic director Mike Doig. "The money raised will be used for athletic projects on campus and for the further development of our overall athletic program."

  • Barktoberfest is Saturday, Oct. 20

    The Marion County Animal Shelter's annual Barktoberfest will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Graham Memorial Park. Awards will be given to the dogs (and their owners) for best costume, best talent, owner/pet look-alike contest, biggest ears, agility coarse, largest/smallest dogs in costumes and best all around shelter dog.   • Bradfordsville Fall Festival is Oct. 20

    The Bradfordsville Civic Center will hold its annual Fall Festival from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The festival will be held in the gymnasium of the Bradfordsville School building, 115 N. Sixth Street in Bradfordsville.

    All proceeds from the festival support the Bradfordsville Civic Center.

    A grocery basket give-away, a country store, a duck pond, face painting, a cake wheel, spin the prize and a prize toss will be part of the festival. A chili supper including chili, chilidogs, drinks and dessert will be served.

  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

    The Caring Place is an emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children of abuse. Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Some of the services that are offered to residents of the shelter include counseling and housing assistance.

    Marion County Public Library is trying to "scare up" some lost books and other items during the month of October. Anyone with overdue items - whether it's one day or several years overdue - can bring those back this month and all overdue fines will be deleted.
