  • Mother charged with DUI after accident with child in vehicle

    A 40-year-old mother was arrested for driving under the influence while her 5-year-old son was in her vehicle after colliding with a rock wall Thursday afternoon.

    Pamela Bennett of Campbellsville was arrested for DUI third offense, first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, failure to produce an insurance card and failure to maintain insurance, according to the Kentucky State Police.

    As a Lebanon Police Officer, Henry Keene has seen the effects drugs and poor decisions can have on individuals and the community.
    As the Lebanon DARE Officer, he tries to teach children how to make good decisions.
    “It’s teaching kids to make decisions when nobody’s looking,” Keene said. “When they are under peer pressure, are they able to evaluate and respond and make a good decision?”
    Keene, 46, said DARE did not exist when he was growing up, and he thinks about that whenever he arrests someone close to his own age.

  • Couple looking to rebuild after house fire

    A Lebanon couple is looking to rebuild after a house fire damaged much of their Lisa Avenue home on Feb. 18.

    Neither Anthony nor Melissa Carrington were home at the time of the fire.

    “We lost everything,” Melissa Carrington said. “We couldn’t salvage anything out of there.”

    The couple are staying at the Hampton Inn for now, and they are in the process of finding a place to rent until they are able to move back into their home at 641 Lisa Avenue. Melissa said that could be between four and six months.

  • Search for Kara Tingle continues

    Thursday morning, at 6:09 to be exact, Sheila and Dale Tingle released balloons into the sky to honor their daughter’s birthday. It’s the exact time their daughter was born 30 years ago, and it's something they’ve done every year since she went missing on July 17, 2010.
    “We do it for hope,” Sheila said.
    Kara was last seen on Beechfork Loop Road in Gravel Switch. She was driving a family member's car that was found two days later on the Bluegrass Parkway.

  • Superintendent recommends school calendar amendments for snow days, girls state basketball tourney

    Marion County Superintendent Dr. Chuck Hamilton made several recommendations regarding the school calendar during Tuesday night's school board meeting, including the possible dismissal of school if the Marion County High School Lady Knights make it to the second round of the KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen basketball tournament.

  • Lebanon man facing rape, sodomy charges

    Christopher Reardon, 21, of 25 Parish Avenue in Lebanon was indicted in Marion Circuit Court recently for first-degree rape (four counts), first-degree attempted sodomy (two counts), and first-degree sexual abuse.

    She shies away from the limelight. She’s more of a behind-the-scenes person. But, the work she does in her community and in her church doesn’t go unnoticed.
    In fact, this Saturday Porter will be receiving the Genevieve Boone Award at the 2013 African American Catholic Leadership Awards Banquet. This award is given to an individual who has been a trailblazer in the areas of cultural enrichment, education and formation.

  • West Mulberry resident gets one year on multiple counts

    George L. Rakes Jr., 41, of 334 W. Mulberry in Lebanon pled guilty in Marion Circuit Court recently to failure to comply with sex offender registration, first offense, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree assault, third or subsequent offense within five years, resisting arrest and third-degree terroristic threatening (two counts). He was sentenced to one year in prison to run consecutively with a Taylor County charge. Two counts of first-degree persistent felony offender were dismissed.

  • Special prosecutor named in Casey murder case

    Less than six weeks into his first term as Commonwealth’s Attorney for Casey and Adair County, Gail L. Williams has asked for a special prosecutor in the upcoming trial of two men charged in the shooting death of Gleason Pyles in Dunnville last September.
    Williams’ letter, dated Feb. 6, and addressed to Shawna Virgin Kincer, executive director in the Office of Special Prosecutions in Attorney General Jack Conway’s Office, cites his unwillingness to prosecute the case.

  • Marion County will not accept Taylor County animals

    In light of the recent announcement that the Taylor County Animal Shelter will no longer adopt out animals, the Marion County Fiscal Court wants it publicly known that the Marion County Animal Shelter will not accept animals from Taylor County.
    The magistrates said the Marion County shelter should verify with a driver’s license that only Marion County residents are dropping off animals at the Marion County shelter.
