  • Lady Knights win three of four to close season

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball won three of their final four regular season contests, leaving their record at 22-9 going into district play.
    Marion County defeated Campbellsville, 14-2, on Monday in the first round of the district tournament. They were scheduled to play Taylor County last night for the championship of the 20th District Tournament.

  • Top players take out tennis Knight, Lady Knights

    Three members of the Marion County tennis teams competed in the state tournament last Thursday.
    Sophomore Alex Spalding, who won the regional crown, competed in the state tournament at Shillito Park for the Knights, while the duo of Elyssa Holt and Madison Cassidy, who were regional semifinalists to earn their state spot, competed at the University of Kentucky Boone/Downing Tennis Center for the Lady Knights.

  • Divine Repeat

    For the second consecutive year, Marion County’s Brooks Divine claimed the KHSAA 2A state pole vaulting title.
    Divine, a senior, won this year’s event by clearing 14 feet three inches at the state meet, which was held at Owsley Frazier Cardinal Park on the University of Louisville campus. Last year, he won by clearing 13’ 6”.
    “I had a goal at the beginning of last year and that was to be a back-to-back state champion and to be able to fulfill that goal and to sign at the University of Kentucky is a dream come true!” Divine said.

     We’ve all heard the quote, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

    But, as most of us have learned, words can hurt. They can hurt us deeply. They can hurt much more than a slap in the face or a punch in the gut. They can hurt our spirit. They can hurt us to our core.

  • Take a moment to remember

    For nearly 150 years now, our nation has set aside a day to remember those who paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom.

    It is perhaps fitting that Memorial Day, which traces its roots to the Civil War, was itself the source of conflict for so many years. It is believed to have begun in the South, when Confederate widows decorated not only the graves of their loved ones but also those of Union soldiers, knowing their families were grieving as well.

  • British soccer camp returns to Marion County in June

    Local soccer players will once again have the opportunity to improve their skills with Challenger Sports at their week-long “British Soccer Camp” from June 24-28. 

    The camp will be held at the Marion County soccer fields across the street from the Fairgrounds, 415 Fairgrounds Road in Lebanon.

  • WMES offers Tammy Newton/Angell Demmel Scholarship

    West Marion will be presenting its first “Mrs. Tammy Newton” scholarship in partnership with Angell Demmel Manufacturing. The school is proud to announce that they will award a scholarship of $1,000 based on a combination of academic achievement and community/school citizenship. The scholarship will be paid jointly to the student and school to be attended by the student. For a list of application procedures, see your school guidance counselor.

  • Local students receive degrees

    Saturday, May 11, 2013, Dr. Robert Imhoff, president of Mid-Continent Univer-sity, conferred degrees to approximately 340 students. Commencement ceremonies were held at Graves County High School in Mayfield.
    Those receiving degrees from Marion County are:
    • Bachelor of Science
    Victoria N. Porter, William Keith Boswell, and Katherine Ann Jones, Summa Cum Laude, all of Lebanon.
    • Associate of Science
    Chantini Renee Owens of Lebanon.
