  • Time for the “tax talk”

    It is the beginning of the school year, and we have begun to settle into our familiar fall patterns. The days are starting to get a little shorter, the morning air is beginning to feel a bit more brisk, the school buses are back on the roads carrying our children to and from school, and the Marion County Board of Education, of which I am now a member, will be convening soon to set the property tax rate for the upcoming year.

  • Taking care of our veterans

    One of the ongoing challenges our country faces is making sure our veterans receive the full benefits they have rightfully earned. Unfortunately, as we discovered during a legislative meeting earlier this month, there are still some who are either unaware of what is available or who have become mired in bureaucracy. The good news is that, thanks to the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs (KDVA), we are making great strides in closing these twin gaps.

  • Tonight's girls soccer match has been cancelled

    The soccer match scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, between Fort Knox and the Marion County Lady Knights has been cancelled.

    The match was cancelled due to the anticipated weather this evening. According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and evening.

  • Fiscal court meets Thursday

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Minutes of the previous meeting

    - Revised final county appropriation for the Marion County PVA for 2015-16

    - 2015-16 inter-scholastic and extracurricular funding agreement with the Marion County Board of Education

    - Maintenance service agreement with Jodie's Business Machines

  • Fiscal court meets Thursday

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the David R. Hourigan Government Building.

  • Band performance set for Friday

    The Marion County High School Marching Knights will be performing at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in the practice field at the back of the student parking at the high school.

    A cookout will follow, and the community is invited to attend.

    Band Director Curtis Bennett reported that the band will demonstrate some basic fundamentals and perform two-thirds if this years competitive show.
