  • City council agrees to share mapping costs with county

    During a special-called meeting March 16, the Lebanon City Council agreed to pay for one-third of the costs of mapping and data merging services, both which are necessary for the county to acquire enhanced 911 services.

    Marion County Judge/Executive John G. Mattingly addressed the council and made the request personally during Wednesday's meeting. He said the county would pay for the remaining two-thirds of the costs.

  • Tourism commission tables budget decision

    The Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission tabled a decision regarding its amended 2010-11 budget during its March 16 meeting.

    In light of the recent action by the Lebanon City Council, Commissioner Dave Winebrenner said the commission needs more information before it can make a decision. The commission agreed to table a decision until its next meeting, which is scheduled for April 11.

    The Lebanon City Council’s recent vote to eliminate the city’s restaurant tax, which would kill the local tourism commission, has created a buzz around town.

    But, it’s not a done deal yet.

    The council must approve two readings of an amendment to its tourism ordinance and that amendment must be published officially before the tax would end.

  • Knights defeated in semi-finals

    The Marion County Knights varsity boys basketball team traveled to Green County High School March 7 to take on the Bardstown Tigers in the semi-final game of the regional tournament, looking to upset their opponent and move on to the 5th Region championship game. The Knights stayed within striking distance for three quarters, but a 23-6 outburst by the Tigers in the fourth quarter put an end to Marion County’s season.

  • LMS advances to state competition

    The Lebanon Middle School archery team won the regional competition at St. Catharine College March 5. They scored 2,985 points, placing first in the region, and will advance to the state tournament for the ninth year in a row,  The state competition will be held March 29 at the Louisville Convention Center.

    Marion County started strong, fell behind, but fought back to regain the lead and had multiple chances to send the game to overtime, but in the end, Manual survived in the Saturday morning semifinal match-up in the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen.

  • Patriots open with Lindenwood University in NAIA National Tournament

    The St. Catharine College Patriots will break new ground next week with their first appearance in the Buffalo Funds NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City. And J.T. Burton's squad will be facing a new opponent as well as they will meet Lindenwood University in the first round of the 32 team tournament that runs from March 16-22.

    The Patriots (22-8) are a 14th seed, which matches the ranking they garnered in the final regular season national poll issued Wednesday. Lindenwood (28-5) was ranked 20th in that final regular season poll.
