  • Votaws celebrate 66 years

     

    Oliver and Snoda Votaw of Campbellsville, formerly of Lebanon, celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Friday, June 28.
    They were married June 28, 1947, in Springfield. Mrs. Votaw is the former Snoda Begley of Springfield.
    Cards are welcome.

  • Couple celebrates anniversary

     

    James and Joyce Hughes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 213. A dinner reception was hosted in their honor on June 22, 2013 for family and friends. The reception was hosted by Angie and Gary Caldwell and Debbie and Louis Carrico at their home. The Hughes’ also have four grandchildren, Tommy, Olivia, Brandon and Nathan.

    Though school is out, it does not mean children can’t learn.
    The Horse Club, taught and led by Joseph Grant, Ruth Mackey and Scott Gardiner, allows children to learn about horses as well as increase their physical abilities as they learn how to bond with the equine species.
    So far, the children in attendance have worked on crafts, learned about saddles and other equipment, as well as how to interact with, ride and groom horses.

  • Little League round-up

    Marion County’s 9-10 softball all-stars finished their 2013 campaign as the 5th District runner-up.
    South Hardin proved to be Marion County’s nemesis, handing the local all-stars both of their losses in the double-elimination tournament. Marion County’s second loss to South Hardin came June 27 in the district championship, 7-1.
    In that game, Jenny Mattingly picked up Marion County’s only hit, while Maggie Overstreet scored the team’s only run.
    South Hardin scored its seven runs as a result of five Marion County errors.

  • Hunter education class at Sportsman Lake Aug. 3

    Early deadline again. And again, not much to write about!
    Did find out something interesting you’ll want to remember.
    Last Friday I was stopped at Sportsman Lake and told there would be a hunter education class (orange card class) held there on Aug. 3.
    That’s right, apparently the class has gone from a three-day venue to a one day, eight-hour class.
