  • Track team has pair of good showings

    The Marion County track team competed in a pair of meets last week in Bardstown and Green County. In the Bardstown, the girls finished in ninth place overall with 30.5 points and the boys team finished in sixth place with 47 points.

  • Tennis teams keep rolling on

    The Marion County High School Knights and Lady Knights tennis won four of five matches last week. The Knights defeated Central Hardin and Bethlehem, and the Lady Knights defeated Central Hardin, Bethlehem and Bardstown.
    The Knights edged the Central Hardin Bruins, 3-2. In singles, Alex Spalding defeated Tad Skaggs, 6-1, 6-1. Ryker Cassidy defeated Kevin Britt, 7-5, 6-1, and Durbin Richardson defeated Alex Norton, 6-0, 4-6 (10-7), in a super tiebreaker.  

  • Some tactics to try when hunting turkey

    Turkey season so far has been less than productive. Confounding or frustrating would be good choices in describing my efforts!
    I’m hearing birds but they’re either hanging up or just plain ignoring my efforts. Can’t quite figure out what I’m doing wrong, if anything? It just might be the birds aren’t in the mood!
    Or, it could be the technique I’m using.
    Yes, there are differing “techniques” used in turkey hunting.

  • Baseball Knights win for the road

    The Marion County Knights baseball team played two district games on the road last week. Friday’s scheduled home game against Fern Creek was cancelled due to wet field conditions.
    The Knights are 11-7 overall and 3-1 in the district.

  • Lady Knights extend winning streak to seven

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team won district home games against Campbellsville and Taylor County and road games at Washington County and Danville last week. The Lady Knights improved to 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the district.

  • Boston on our minds

    Our minds have been on Boston since the bombings occurred at the Boston Marathon April 15, horrifying the nation and creating chaos at the most prestigious and historical race in the nation.
    But, for at least two Lebanon residents, the tragedy has been much more than just a news story.
    For Jena Piekarski and her family, it's been extremely personal.
    Boston is her home.

  • Runners and riders take to the streets

    A total of 124 cyclists and runners participated in the annual Family Bike and Hike 5k Run/Walk Saturday, April 20, in Lebanon. The event is hosted by the Marion County Fitness and Nutrition Coalition.
