    With Marion County Country Ham Days just a few days away, people across the community are getting in the spirit of the festival. Out in the county and in town, people are showing that they are anticipating the annual celebration.

  • Who’s responsible for education? Students

    Marion County schools have been through several changes in the past five years. Through it all, education professionals, community members and business officials have all stressed that education needs to be a priority.
    That is all well and good, even if people sometimes disagree over what that means.
    But everyone should also remember something else: students are responsible for their own education.
    Parents and teachers do have influence, certainly, but it’s up to each individual student to decide how much effort he or she will put into it.

  • School board approves time off, not medical leave, for superintendent

    The Marion County Board of Education held a quick meeting Friday afternoon to clarify an error made at Tuesday's regular meeting.

  • School board meets at St. Charles Middle tonight

    The Marion County Board of Education is scheduled to meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at St. Charles Middle School.

    The agenda for the meeting includes:

    • Communications

    - Superintendent’s report

    - Introduction of 2014-15 Marion County Student Ambassadors – Troy Benningfield & Laurie Followell

    - Exceptional Child Education (ECE) Update – Traci Sharpe

  • UPDATE: Missing teen has been located

    A 16-year-old who was reported missing since Sept. 13 has been located.

    Adrianna M. Couch of Lebanon is reported to be at University of Kentucky hospital, according to Lebanon Police Chief Wally Brady.

  • HAM DAYS: TREASURE HUNT prize has been found

    The 2014 Ham Day Treasure Hunt prize has been found.

  • Library presents Cinema at the Square tonight

     Anyone who loves movies and the Veronica Roth Divergent series may want to attend the Marion County Public Library's Cinema at the Square on Friday, Sept. 19. 

    The event is free and the gates open at 7 p.m. The PG-13 movie will begin at dusk.

    The first 150 people through the gates will receive a free one-day rental code from Redbox. The movie is being presented through a grant from Redbox's Outside the Box program

  • Fiscal court meets Thursday

     The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the David R. Hourigan Government Center.

    The agenda for the meeting includes:

    • Minutes of the previous meeting 

    • Sheriff’s request for sale of damaged surplus vehicle by sealed bids

    • Request for support with “Halloween in the Park” 

    • Re-appointment of extension district board members

    • Open bids for road salt for winter 2014-2015
