  • Marion County splits double-header with Taylor County

    The Marion County Lady Knights were in action against the Taylor County Lady Cardinals Friday night in the Roby Dome.

    It was a low-scoring affair from the opening tip. The first score came nearly two minutes into the game on a free throw by Taylor County junior guard Haley Wright.

     Industrialization. Empty shells of buildings. Soot. What am I talking about, you ask? The slums of Cleveland? War-torn Bosnia? 

    No, silly. I’m talking about the Winter Games and their host city, Sochi. 

  • Sore shoulders are just part of a good goose hunt

     After I whined about the recent early deadlines I had over the holidays, I’m now enduring a self-imposed early deadline, turn in Saturday instead of Sunday.

    This one I can live with cause it involves leaving on a snow goose hunting trip. Terry, Billy, Ryan and I are heading to Arkansas to take part in their Light Goose Conservation Order Season.

  • Enduring the snow, the Senate carries on

     I’m sure I join most of you in saying enough already with this winter weather. I know it has been a toll on most folks’ daily routines, trying to figure out what to do with the kids on the no school days, driving on the hazardous roads, dealing with power outages.

  • City council meets Monday evening

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at city hall.

    The agenda includes the following:

    - Delegations

    - Approval of minutes

    - Payment of bills

    - Department reports

    - Old business

    - New business:

    • A resolution to apply for assistance from the state revolving loan program under the federal drinking water revolving fund

    • An ordinance creating a franchise for the erection, laying and maintenance of electric facilities

  • Library will open at noon

    Marion County Public Schools are closed today, but the Marion County Public Library will be open for limited hours.

    The library will be open from noon to 5 p.m. this afternoon.

  • City council holding work session Friday on KU franchise agreement

    The Lebanon City Council will be holding a work session at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at city hall.

    During the session, the council will discuss its upcoming franchise renewal agreement with Kentucky Utilities.

  • Marion County schools will be closed Thursday

    Marion County schools will be closed Thursday, Feb. 6.

    Superintendent Taylora Schlosser said schools will be closed Thursday due to winter weather.

    The National Weather Service has issued a travel advisory until midnight due to light snow accumulation and icy conditions in Central Kentucky.

    Likewise, remaining moisture could refreeze with temperatures in the mid-20s this evening, and black ice has already been reported in some areas, according to the weather service.
