  • Drying out

    According to the county's initial damage report on the May 2 flooding, 502 W. Central Avenue in Bradfordsville received three feet of water and received major damage.

    Hilda Perkins, 62, has lived in her house on W. Central Avenue for 45 years. She remembers it flooding before, in 1970, but this time was worse.

    Almost everything Perkins owns was drying out in her front yard three days later. A mattress, clothing, dishes and multiple photo albums were among the countless items water-logged by the flooding.

  • Lady Knights win C-ville Invitational

    After a 13-4 start to the season, the Marion County High School softball team limped through last week and is currently 16-8. Losses to Boyle County, Taylor County, Mercer County and Hart County set the Lady Knights back in district and region play.

    On a positive note, the Lady Knights won the Campbellsville Invitational Tournament over the weekend after falling to Hart County 6-5 in the first round.

  • Knights take their lumps

    After a tough week, the Marion County High School baseball emerged with a 12-11 record with five games to play before the 20th District tournament.

    Marion County 5, Wayne County 0

    The Knights ended the weekend with a victory while riding Joe Lewis and Paul Spalding for a win on Saturday afternoon at Pulaski County.

    Lewis threw a complete game for the Knights, giving up only four hits and walking none.

  • Knights win HAC; girls finish second

    Marion County dominated at the Heartland Athletic Conference championship meet last Tuesday at LaRue County High School as the boy's team won the overall meet and the girl's team finished second.

    The Knights also dominated individual performances as Kendal Taul won the Ewing Award for the boys and Jassmine Franklin won the award for the girls.

    The boy's team scored 212 points in the meet, beating second place Green County by nearly 100 points to capture the championship.

    The girl's team scored 134 points, losing to Green County who finished with 188 points.

  • KSP investigating shooting in St. Francis

    A 26-year-old Nelson County man is listed in stable condition following a shooting incident Monday afternoon in St. Francis, according to the Kentucky State Police.

    Around 4 p.m. May 10, the state police received a report of shots fired in the 1100 block of St. Francis Road (KY 527).

    Michael Chad Greenwell later called Nelson County dispatch to report that he was at his home in New Hope and that he had been shot. Greenwell was transported to the New Hope Fire Department where he was airlifted to U of L, according to Gregory.

  • Knights earn a high seed

    Mother Nature limited the action on the field for the Marion County High School baseball team last week but the Knights managed to come away with the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 20th District tournament.

    Marion County 12, Adair County 2

    With a win on Friday at Adair, the Knights moved to 11-8 overall and secured the number two seed in district tournament play. The Knights swept the regular season series with Adair County, who finished regular season play 0-6 in district play and earning the four seed in the 20th District tournament.

  • Last day of school is still May 28

    Although students missed Monday, May 3, because of the recent flood, the last day of school will not change.

    According to Judy Gaddie, director of pupil personnel, students will report on May 28 for a full day of instruction. It will be the students' last day of school for the 2009-10 school year.

    According to Gaddie, the time lost due to schools being closed May 3 will be made up by using the seven minutes per day that are included in the school calendar plus two extended hours on May 28. Originally, May 28 was going to be an early dismissal day.

  • Rise again

    Rev. Will Pierce stepped to the front of the church to address the approximately 200 people present for the May 9 service at Bradfordsville Baptist Church.

    "It is so wonderful to see you today in the building," he said.

    One week earlier, nearly two feet of water poured into the church, damaging the carpet and roughly half of the hymnals and Bibles in the church's pews.

  • Knights round out regular season

    With only five home games remaining, the Marion County High School baseball team looks to finish the regular season strong.

    On Wednesday, the Knights host Nelson County (14-12) at 5:30 p.m.

    "They have some kids that can play, we've seen them in the past," Head Coach Chad Spalding said. "It should be a good game and fun to watch. It's going to be all about the team that makes the routine plays. (Nelson County Head Coach David) Sparrow took over and has done a good job."

    On Thursday, the Knights host LaRue County (15-11) at 5:30 p.m.
