  • School is back in session: Drive slow and let them grow

    Years ago J.T. Whitlock would run PSA commercials every year when school started. One of his favorite messages was “Drive slow and let them grow.” I thought these were a little on the corny side, but they were effective. Folks, school is starting this week and everyone is a little excited and out of their summer routine. Traffic will be heavy with all the moms and dads headed to school with their children for that first day. School buses will be out on the roads after a short summer recess. So, slow down, be patient and remember: Drive slow and let them grow.

  • Gootee is the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman

     Rachel Gootee is the 2015 Marion County Distinguished Young Woman.

    Gootee won the title along with preliminary scholarship, self-expression, talent and Be Your Best Self awards.

    She is the daughter of John and Lou Ann Gootee.

  • Man dies in car fire in Washington County

     A man was found dead after car fire Friday morning in Washington County.

  • Superintendent's evaluation scheduled for Monday

    The Marion County Board of Education has scheduled a special-called meeting for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the board of education office, 755 E. Main Street in Lebanon.

    The agenda includes an executive session pursuant to KRS 156.557(4) regarding preliminary discussions relating to the evaluation of a superintendent. 

    According to the agenda, after the executive session,  the board will give its summative evaluation of Superintendent Taylora Schlosser.

    Back to School Splash
    Open Arms Community Church, 2205 Danville Highway, Lebanon, will have a “Back to School Splash” on Sunday, Aug. 3. Inflatables and games will be held from 4-6 p.m. (No two piece bathing suits unless a tankini.) Games are free. Prizes are school items. Food will be served at 6 p.m. Every one is welcome.
