  • Barreling ahead

    Maker’s Mark distillery is growing. A lot.
    The company has already constructed three new 34,250-square-foot warehouses in Loretto, and it has plans to build six more.
    By comparison, the distillery’s previous warehouses are 16,500 square feet. The smaller warehouses can hold just under 20,000 barrels, while the newer, larger warehouses can hold 50,400 barrels apiece.

  • University closure won’t stop local student

    When Mid-Continent University announced it would be closing June 30, it didn’t just affect students on the Mayfield campus.
    It affected people across the state, people like Danny Dale Wright, 63, of Lebanon. Wright is one of several local students who have been taking classes through Mid-Continent either online or through the classes that have been meeting weekly at the Marion County Adult Education Center in Lebanon.

  • CU graduates 612 in academic year; 416 in May graduations

    United States Rep. Ed Whitfield, R-Ky., urged Campbellsville University undergraduates to “work well and faithfully” as he addressed graduates in Powell Athletic Center.
    CU graduated 152 master’s students Friday night, May 2, in Ransdell Chapel, with 264 graduates Saturday morning, May 3, for a total of 416 students receiving their diplomas upon completion of all academic requirements. In CU’s December commencement, 196 received their diplomas for a total of 612 students in this year’s graduating class of 2013-2014.

    One thing is certain, when Fr. Ben Brown of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Catharine College decides to retire from the active ministry, no one will be able to say he hasn’t had a full career.
    Celebrating 40 years as an ordained priest on May 25, Brown has seen practically every corner of the world and served in a variety of positions that have each taught him something about his faith and the faith of others along the way.

  • Montgomery and Riley will marry June 7

     

    Charlie and Beth Montgomery of Lebanon announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sarah Montgomery, to Josh Riley, son of Perry Riley of Lebanon.
    Montgomery is a 2006 graduate of Marion County High School.
    Riley is a 2004 graduate of Washington County High School.
    The wedding will take place at 2 p.m. on June 7, 2014 at Saint Augustine Catholic Church with a reception to follow at Centre Square.
    All family and friends are invited to attend.
