    Since 1926, February has been deemed Black History Month. In this month, the world celebrates the lives, inventions, and accomplishments of black people. If I may be honest, it is a shame that it took the world so long to realize that people of color had brains and talent that exceeded dancing, singing and dunking a basketball.

  • Lady Knights barrel towards district tourney

    One regular season game stands between the Lady Knights and their quest for postseason perfection.

    Marion County hosts Nelson County on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to end the regular season. Nelson County (14-9) features a healthy Samantha Drake, one of the top players in the region and state.

    Since Nelson County star senior Samantha Drake was a freshman, the Cards and the Lady Knights have played seven times. Marion County has won four of those games - two at home, one at Nelson County and one on a neutral site.

  • Lobbyist meets with local PAC

    During the past month, the Marion County Fiscal Court and the Lebanon City Council took its first step into the field of lobbying.

    Friday morning at the Hampton Inn, the Citizens for Continued Growth of Marion County, a political action committee, met with Karen Thomas-Lentz, the lobbyist who will be working on behalf of the city and the county.

  • Open for business

    In 1972, six men got together to form an organization to stimulate business, commercial and manufacturing activity in Marion County.

    Today, that organization, the Marion County Industrial Foundation, provides oversight to the Marion County Economic Development Office, and it could affect what Lebanon and Marion County will look like in the future. The foundation owns more than 330 acres of land (along Hwy. 208 and at the intersection of Hwy.

  • Knights beat border rival

    The Marion County Knights knocked off Washington County last week and lost a fourth quarter lead to drop a second game against Nelson County. They look to gain momentum in the final week of the regular season if the weather permits.

    Marion County 49, Washington County 39

    The Knights survived an inside attack in the second half to hold on for a 10-point win over border rival Washington County at home on Friday.

  • Lebanon man dead after wreck

    The Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Monday, Feb. 15.

    According to the Lebanon Police Department, at 2:08 p.m., a caller reported seeing an overturned vehicle in a creek on Popes Creek Road, six miles east of Lebanon. The Kentucky State Police, Marion County EMS, Marion County Rescue Squad and Bradfordsville Fire Department responded to the scene.

    According to a report by the KSP, the accident is estimated to have occurred at 5:45 a.m.
