  • Archery team headed to state for the eighth straight time

    For the eighth year in a row, Lebanon Middle School will be sending its archery team to the state meet.

    Lebanon Middle placed second overall in middle school team competition over the last two weeks at the NASP Region 5 tournament held at LMS. Lebanon Middle hosted the region tournament for the second consecutive year.

    James T. Alton claimed first overall while Bardstown Middle School took third overall. West Hardin Middle, St. Charles Middle and North Washington Middle School rounded out the top six.

  • Mercy defeats Lady Knights in first round of Sweet 16

    The Marion County Lady Knights started slow against the Mercy Jaguars in the first round of the 2010 girls Sweet 16. In the end, the Jaguars sent Marion County home early from the state tournament.

    Mercy defeated the Lady Knights, 67-51.

    Mercy led Marion County by 10 points at the end of the first quarter, 22-12, but the Lady Knights cut the lead to three by halftime. Coming out of the locker room, Mercy heated up to take a 55-44 lead after three quarters. The Jaguars added to their lead in the fourth quarter.

    Marion County finishes the season 33-2.

  • PRIMARY SHIFT

    Monday, letters were sent to The Lebanon Enterprise and The Casey County News by the two candidates who had filed to run in the Republican primary May 18. Bill Pikerill announced that he is withdrawing from the race for the 24th District state representative seat. That leaves Leo Johnson as the only Republican candidate remaining. What follows are the letters submitted by Pickerill and Johnson.

    It is with deep regret that I announce today that I am ending my candidacy and I am withdrawing my name for the House of Representative's 24th District.

  • Epps claims tourney MVP

    After the dust settled on the Fifth Region tournament, several Lady Knights were named to the Fifth Region tournament team. Freshman Makayla Epps took home Most Outstanding Player honors, averaging 22 points per game during a three game stretch.

    Sophomore Bre Elder, freshman Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, junior Brooke Roberts and freshman Makayla Epps were named to the Fifth Region All-Tournament team.

    Epps, Roberts and Goodin-Rogers took home player of the game awards during the first round, semifinals and finals.

  • Lady Knights face Mercy in first round slug fest

    In a battle between two top 10 teams, Marion County looks to escape the first round unscathed in their regular season rematch with Mercy Academy (23-8).

    In their last battle, the Lady Knights used a strong second half to thump Mercy 69-53 at the Roby Dome. Freshman Kyvin Goodin-Rogers had a breakout game with 25 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks.

  • Pickerill withdraws from primary

    Bill Pickerill has announced that he is withdrawing as a candidate for 24th District state representative in the Republican primary, according to a letter recently submitted to The Lebanon Enterprise and The Casey County News.

    According to the Secretary of State's website, Pickerill was not listed as officially withdrawn as of press time, but Pickerill said he would be contacting the Secretary of State's office that day.

  • 2010 St. Baldrick's event set for March 20

    For the fourth time in as many years, Marion Countians will be offering up their heads in hopes of finding a cure for cancer.

    The 2010 St. Baldrick's will be held from 1-3 p.m. March 20 at the St. Augustine Catholic School gymnasium. The event is a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which raises money toward children's cancer research.

    "We believe if you can find a cure for kids, you can find a cure for all," said Eric Daugherty, the event organizer for Citizen's National Bank.

  • Chicken casserole is easy, delicious

    This week's recipe is one of my favorite ways to cook chicken.

    It's easy, tastes delicious and is great with rice, potatoes or polenta.

    I've been making it a long time. I recently found the recipe in my mom's recipe box where I had sent it to her and it was dated December 1970.

    You can use cut-up whole chickens, breast pieces or legs and thighs (my dad's favorite.)

    Try it; you'll like it.

    BBQ Chicken in Casserole

    2 chickens, cut up

    1 t. salt

    1 c. flour

    1 stick butter

  • Marion County Public Schools will be closed Wednesday

    Marion County Public Schools Superintendent Donald Smith has announced that school will be closed Wednesday, March 10.

    The public schools are closed because the Marion County Lady Knights are competing in the girls Sweet 16 basketball tournament in Bowling Green. Marion County is scheduled to play Mercy in the first round at 1:30 p.m. Central time (2:30 p.m. Eastern time).

    St. Augustine Grade School will be open Wednesday.
