  • 20th District Tournament begins

    The Marion County Lady Knights softball team began the postseason Monday night against Taylor County at Talley Field.  With the threat of rain looming, the game progressed into the seventh inning before being postponed due to lightning.  The Lady Knights were trailing 12-7 in the top of the seventh inning with one out and Taylor County batting. The game was set to resume last night with the championship game of the 20th district softball tournament to follow. Results were unknown as of press time.

  • Several qualify for state tourney

    Thursday evening, the Marion County track teams competed in the regional meet in Elizabethtown. Six individuals and two relay teams qualified for competition at the state level. The state track meet will be held tomorrow at the University of Louisville.
    Two days before the regional meet, sophomore standout Brooks Divine was medically cleared to return to the team.

  • Burdette/Swencki win regionals

    The majority of the Marion County Knights tennis team is finished competing for the season, but the doubles duo of Jacob Burdette and Noah Swencki will be heading to the state tournament, which will be held at the Sayre High School tennis courts starting tomorrow. Burdette and Swencki won the regional tournament Thursday night. They won four matches in the regional tournament to not only qualify them for state, but to give them the high honors at the tournament.

    Sluggers tie for first
    Fifteen teams, including four locally based teams, competed in the United Southern Girls Softball Fast Pitch tournaments in the 14-and-under, 12-and-under and 10-and-under divisions.
    The Marion County Sluggers tied for first in the rain-shortened 14-and-under division winning two pool games behind twin two hit shut out pitching performances of Ashley Walls and Monie Matney. The Bluegrass Blaze also went undefeated in pool play and the Fern Creek Fusion came in third place.

    Kenlee Stout’s three hits, three runs and four RBI’s helped the Rays to a league leading 7 and 1 record.  Maddie Pettus scored three and knocked in two as well.  Alexis Sickles had two hits, including an inside the park home run, and five RBI’s for the Cardinals.

  • Girls team competes in regional tournament

    The Marion County Lady Knights tennis team competed in the regional tennis tournament, held May 13-17 in Elizabethtown, which finished up their season.  
    Two Marion County singles players, Olivia Thompson and Taylor Corbett, and one doubles team of Hayley Abell and Allie Evans, competed in the opening round matches on Friday to determine whether or not they would advance to the second round of the regional tournament, while the doubles team of Madison Cassidy and Elyssa Holt received a first round bye.
