  • Raising the bar

    The Marion County Knights football players were understandably down after Friday night's loss to Lone Oak, but we hope with time and distance they will appreciate what they accomplished this year.

    For just the second time in school history, Marion County reached the state football semifinals.

    This year's Knights went 11-3, posting the second-best record in school history. Only the 1987 squad, which finished 12-2 and also reached the semifinals, had a higher winning percentage.

  • Lebanon City Council meeting Monday evening

    The Lebanon City Council is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. tonight, Dec. 7.

    Items on the agenda are as follows:

  • Special election: KCIS survey of Senate District 14 candidates

    The Family Trust of Kentucky recently sent a survey to Jodie Haydon and Jimmy Higdon, the candidates for Dec. 8 special election to fill the vacant District 14 state senate seat.

    According to the Family Trust, the purpose of the survey is to improve voters' knowledge of the candidates, voter participation and the democratic process in Kentucky.

    The survey takes an "issues-only" approach, with the aim of cutting through political rhetoric.

    The survey offered a variety of statements and asked candidates to respond whether they agreed or disagreed.

    1. In your opinion, what is the most important issue facing Kentucky at this time, and what can you do to help with that issue if you are elected?   Due to the current leadership of the Kentucky State Senate there is a political roadblock which has resulted in gridlock in state government. My opponent cannot solve this problem because he will be just another yes vote to David Williams, the obstructer in chief of the State Senate. My election will send a message to both political parties that business as usual is over.

    1. In your opinion, what is the most important issue facing Kentucky at this time, and what can you do to help with that issue if you are elected?   The most important issue is creating jobs and protecting the jobs we already have. As a small business owner, I understand firsthand the hardships businesses face in this tough economy. Kentucky has lost over 100,000 jobs this past year and these jobs will only come back with hard work.

  • MAC inmate walks away, recaptured within hours

    A inmate from Marion Adjustment Center was confirmed to be missing at 9:24 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. By 11:55 that night he had been recaptured by the Kentucky State Police.

    John Lawrence Kilburn, 28, walked away from MAC, but was located in Marion County.

    Kilburn was serving a 10-year sentence for second-degree robbery on a Pulaski County conviction. According to a statement from MAC, he would have been eligible for parole in March of 2011.

    MAC officials credited local and state law enforcement for a quick response to apprehend Kilburn.

  • Three injured in two-vehicle crash on US 68

    Three people were injured Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 68.

    According to a Taylor County Sheriff's Office report, David Sandusky, 41, of 3200 St. Rose Road in Lebanon was traveling east on U.S. 68 at about 7 p.m.

  • Bitter Sweet

    Marion County High School repeated history Friday night, losing in the state semifinal game in Paducah against an offensive powerhouse. It was the first time the Knights had been back to the state semi-finals since 1987, and that squad also lost to a team from Paducah.

  • MCHS Aqua Knights attend first meet

    The Marion County High School swim team competed in the Lakers Fall Preview Meet at the Russell Springs Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 21.

    "It was a good introduction to competitive swimming for the young team members," said Coach Colleen Ryan. "And, for the more experienced swimmers, it showed that it was time to get serious and identified what areas need work."

  • H1N1 vaccines available for all elementary school students

    The Marion County Health Department in conjunction with the Marion County School District are offering H1N1 vaccines to all elementary school age students. The clinics will be held as follows:

      • Dec. 3: West Marion Elementary from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

                     Calvary Elementary from 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
