  • Fiscal court meets Thursday, Feb. 18

    The Marion County Fiscal Court is scheduled to meet in regular session at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

    The following items are on the agenda:

    - To consider a change in the contribution schedule for HRA/EBA member benefits

    - To consider escrow and disbursement agreement with the Marion County Board of Education regarding LGEA funds

    - To consider a renewal of the county's policy with Delta Dental

    - To consider amendments to the 2009-10 budget

    - To consider a memorandum of understanding regarding a 2010 ambulance service grant

  • No school Wednesday, Feb. 17

    Marion County Public Schools will be closed, Wednesday, Feb. 17, because of winter weather and dangerous road conditions.

    The National Weather Service is forecasting a 40 percent chance of snow showers Tuesday evening with a low around 22 degrees and wind between 9 and 13 miles per hour.

    For Wednesday, the weather service is predicting similar conditions with a 20 percent chance of snow showers. Wednesday night, the low is predicted to be around 21 degrees with winds between 7 and 10 miles per hour.

  • Government transparency bill moves forward

    The Senate pushed for government transparency, expanded voter participation, and the protection of private property. I attended the Rally for Life at the Capitol on Wednesday where I spoke to 200 people gathered there to celebrate the sanctity of life. I also spoke at the United 874K Coalition rally which promoted services for the disabled. One of my personal highlights during every session is the Right to Life Rally. Ever since I came to Frankfort as a state representative and now as a senator, I have supported pro-life legislation.

  • Melt-down Marion County registration is this month

    Anyone interested in losing weight and making lifestyle changes is invited to sign up for Melt-Down Marion County.

    Registration will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Marion County Extension Office.

    Weekly sessions will be held each Thursday from March 4 through April 22. Weigh-ins will begin at 5 p.m. and programs will start at 5:30 p.m.

  • Lebanon man arrested for child pornography possession

    A Lebanon man is facing accusations of possessing child pornography following his arrest Feb. 1.

    Sherman Pike of Lebanon was arrested after a search warrant was executed on his apartment by members of the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Attorney General's Office, the Lebanon Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Department.

    He was arraigned Feb. 3 in Marion District Court before Judge Connie Phillips.

  • Boil water advisory has been lifted

    The boil water advisory for the City of Lebanon was lifted as of 12:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13., according to John "Quincy" Thomas of the Lebanon Water Works.

    The advisory was issued as a result of a chemical feed machine malfunction at the treatment plant. Thomas said the machine has already been repaired.

    Maybe that's what the City of Lebanon and Marion County were thinking when they decided to join other cities, counties and states that have hired lobbyists in hopes of getting a leg up on the competition for state and federal funds.

  • Lady Knights look tough

    Marion County cruised to a crucial Fifth Region victory over Elizabethtown on Thursday at E'town to demonstrate their dominance over region opponents this season and advance their overall record to 24-1.

    A win over Taylor County on Friday night at Taylor extended their winning streak to 12 games.

    Marion County 65, Taylor County 28

    "We were a little sluggish and figured that would be the case," Lady Knights Head Coach Trent Milby said. "We were still playing pretty good considering. We played really good defense on them."
