  • Mercy comes to town

    This week the Lady Knights face a familiar Fifth Region foe, a border rival and then play host to the number two team in the state.

    On Thursday night, North Hardin (10-11) comes to town. These aren't the same Lady Trojans that played the Lady Knights in the first round of the Fifth Region tournament last year. They've lost a few players along the way but still play a break neck style.

  • Epps featured in '96 Cats documentary

    Remember back to 1996. Remember Anthony Epps, Antoine Walker, Tony Delk, Ron Mercer and the rest of the Untouchables. It's easy to remember because Epps proved he was a winner on the high school and college level.

    Now it's going to be easier to remember that season when the '96 University of Kentucky men's basketball team won the NCAA championship. On Friday, the Derek Anderson Foundation presents the official blue carpet screening of the "Untouchables of Kentucky" documentary at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom in Lexington.

  • Knights battle Fifth Region opponents

    The Marion County Knights look to keep the momentum from their last victory going as they square off with three Fifth Region opponents over the next week.

    On Thursday, the Knights travel to Nelson County (13-7). Nelson owns the season series with a 68-59 win over the Knights at the Roby Dome on Jan. 29.

  • Industrial foundation reports on 2009

    The Marion County Industrial Foundation presented its annual report Feb. 4 to the Marion County Fiscal Court and Feb. 8 to the Lebanon City Council.

    According to the report, Marion County received good news in 2009 in spite of the down economy. Local industries Angell-Demmel, Curtis Maruyasu, Wilbert Custom Plastics and Summa Technology all announced plans to expand.

  • Accepting RACHEL's CHALLENGE

    Craig Scott issued a challenge to local middle and high school students Monday.

    It's a message Scott has delivered hundreds of times to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of students around the country. It's a message that was inspired by his own experience as one of the survivors of the Columbine High School shootings that took place April 20, 1999.

    And it was also inspired by his sister, Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first person killed that day.

    "She believed that no great person has ever done anything great on their own," Scott said.

  • City agrees to hire lobbyist

    The Lebanon City Council voted 5-0 Monday to help the Marion County Fiscal Court hire a lobbyist in Frankfort. While they aren't the first city or county to employ a legislative agent, this is the first time the two local governing bodies have done so.

    City Councilman Bill Pickerill was not present at Monday's meeting.

  • Ready to listen and learn

    The day after he won the special election for the 24th District state representative seat, Terry Mills was enjoying a break after 28 straight days of campaigning and catching up on some housework.

    "I'm happy I can take a day and kind of relax," he said.

    But Mills, 59, didn't get to rest for long.

    Monday morning, the Secretary of State's office certified the election results, and Mills was sworn in as the state's newest state representative that afternoon.

  • Knights snap streak

    A win over Garrard County snapped a 10-game losing streak for the Marion County Knights on Saturday at the Roby Dome.

    The win was one night too late for the Knights as a shot at the number two seed in the district tournament slipped away when they lost to Taylor County on Friday night. With the loss the Knights fell to fourth place in the district and will play Campbellsville in the first round of the 20th District tournament.

  • City, county seek grant for fire training facility

    The Marion County fire departments are seeking grant funding to build a fire training facility.

    The Marion County Fiscal Court has agreed to serve as the depository for the grant funds if it is approved.

    The estimated cost to construct the facility is $155,000. The proposal includes a drill tower, a burn/smoke building and a multi-purpose building.

  • Knights continue skid

    The Marion County High School boy's basketball team continued to struggle in the fourth quarter, letting a heartbreaker slip away at home.

    Down by 10 at the half against Nelson County, the Knights played stonewall defense in the third and half of the fourth quarter. The Cardinals only scored four points from the beginning of the third quarter until five minutes left in the fourth. From there, they went on a furious run to put the Knights away at the Roby Dome on Friday night.
