  • Former shoebox recipient shares impact of a simple gift

    Springfield Baptist Church, 305 Lincoln Park Road, Springfield., will host an Operation Christmas Child kick-off event for Washington and Marion County residents at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.  The event’s guest speaker will be former shoebox recipient Timur Nesbitt.
    Nesbitt grew up an orphan in Central Asia. At age 13, he received an Operation Christmas Child shoe box – the first gift he had ever received. Inside the box was a yo-yo, candy, school supplies, a letter and photo from a boy in Texas who packed the box.

  • Golf: Marion County ends season at regional tournament

     The Marion County Knights’ season came to a close as they finished 14th out of 20 schools in the 4th Region Tournament  on Sept. 30. The match was held at Connemara in Nicholasville.

    According to KHSAA, the West Jessamine Colts won the regional title with a total of 306 strokes. They were led by Connor Haas, who shot a 72.

    There will be Rosary Rally on Saturday,  October 11 at noon in front of the David R. Hourigan Government Building. All are welcome to come and pray for the needs of our world.

  • Football: Cards fly by Knights

     Playing in icy wind and rain, the Marion County Knights ended their winning streak with a loss to the Taylor County Cardinals, 30-8, in their first district game of the season. 

    The Knights (4-2) were held scoreless by the Cardinals (2-4) until their final minute of play.

    Scarlett Rain Spalding celebrated her first birthday Oct. 7. She is the daughter of Brad and Carrie Spalding of Campbellsville.
    Her grandparents are David and Jane Lee of Lebanon, Mike and Janie Phillips and the late Gabriel “Guber” Spalding of St. Joe.
    Scarlett has two brothers, Phoenix Bradley and Asher Hamilton Spalding.
